Razer Electra w/ Fiio e10k ?

SMR

Hi all,

Working in software development, I pass most of my days in front of my computer, and I also game in my free times. About 1.5 years ago I purchased myself a pair of Razer Electra headphones, wich I really like. I'm not a fan of razer, far from that, but so far I got to tell that they do the job very, very well. So much that I purchased a pair for my dad as a gift.

Anyway, I know that they are pretty basics headphones, so I was wondering if the purchase of a Fiio e10k would make a big enough difference to change my headphone experience, or I would need better headphones to be able to hear a better quality sound.

I don't wan't to spend money too much on these things since I'm just a beginner in audio components, but this would be a good start I think.

I'm moving into a house this summer so money will be short for a couple of months cause moving will cost something, but now I have the budget for it.

So yeah... Basically is it worth it with these headphones or it's useless ?

Thank you  :)

How much is the E10k? Around $80 in amazon, I think. Let's round it up to $100. Get a good $100 headphone from a reputable audio brand/companies. It will sound much better than Razer + E10k

No point amping a headphone like Electra, just get something like Audio Technica AD500x or Sennheisers.

First, choose whether you'd like open backed or closed backed.

Second, what kind of sound signature are you looking for, e.g. bassy? full mids? incredible high notes clarity?

Read the FAQ topic for more information.

Closed back, I like to be in my own head, it help me work.

I like bassy audio devices. I listen to rock, metal, electronic music, a bit of classical and blues. But yeah, definitely bassy.

Ergonomics are also very important (I use them at work) along with a fairly good build quality since I carry them from my job to my home everyday.

HyperX Clouds are decent enough as a standalone headphone, and should be widely available/affordable in Canada.

I like the Kingston HyperX Cloud II, they even include a desktop DAC in the package, but at 100$ for the 2 items, will I hear a good gain in quality vs. mine ? Didn't even knew HyperX made headsets.

Maybe? I can't guarantee anything, but the general consensus is that Razer audio products suck, and separately the Clouds get good reviews which isn't surprising as they are based off a pretty good headphones.

That are kind new.

Ya, rly.

Kingston contracted with QPAD who essentially just re-brands a good OEM headphone. The Gemini DJ HSR-1000 is the same headphone, maybe with some minor build differences.

One thing that has been bugging me is that did QPAD actually rebranded Beyerdynamic's headphones for HyperX cloud?

No, the Cloud is based off the QH-90 which is based off that headphone I just linked, which is not made by Beyerdynamic. There is some speculation that these are made by an OEM which supplies some basic parts to Beyerdynamic, but we don't know for sure.

The QH-1339 is a rebranded MMX300, however, which might be where some confusion is coming from.

Damn, they look awfully similar, I see why now.
