Should i get the SAMSUNG 850 Pro OR the 850 Evo?

Member

Hello all,

I was wondering what you guys think, the 850 PRO OR the 850 EVO?

I heard the PRO has MLC, therefore good for servers.

I am going to use this drive as my primary OS boot drive (Windows PC).

Any input is greatly appreciated!

PS: I'm planning to get the 250 GB model! :)

Either is fine, the pro is better.

Though I heard something quite bad about the 850 pro recently, so perhaps get an 840 pro?

Not sure, it was a few days ago and I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to it, mainly skimmed through it and went "Well damn, guess I shouldn't get a 850 pro either..." (After already seeing something about shitty performance on the 840 evo and 850 evo or something of that sort, leaving me to the 840 pro or a different brand of SSD)

Crucial MX100 drives are dirt cheap. 128 for 60 and 256 for 119?

From what I hear, they are relatively fast.

got an 840 evo 1TB and an 850 evo 120GB  the 850 is slightly faster then the 840 but chalk that up to margin of error

Both are 3D VNAND.

I've used the Pro and the Evo. I currently have the Pro, but the Evo is just as good. For the price savings, get the 850 Evo. As for the "issues", people are upgrading the firmware of the SSD's (not adviseable) and it was messing up the SSD's.

I wouldn't bother. Samsung's 840 drives still have problems almost 19 months after launch and the way Samsung has been handling it is pathetic. I wouldn't be surprised if the 850 drives have problems that take almost 2 years to fix as well. Had any other company had this problem and dealt with it in the same way, they would be knee deep in shit, it's only because it says Samsung on the box that they get a free pass for this BS.

Well most people are fine with their Samsung drives. I myself have 256GB 850 Pro. It's just a bad pick from a pool of good products if some may be defected. I've had OCZ Vector very first one, original one they released. While drive is still a top notch speed SSD it suffered from problems like freezing or boot failures. I don't have it anymore so don't know if they fixed it with firmware. People having problem with Samsung drives is not big. Some may update firmware to early if it wasn't tested enough and compromise drive. 840 Evo problem is the only wider problem known. It affects like some portion of people and half of them don't have problems anymore after fix. My friend haves one, still no problems.

850 Pro doesn't have problems, it was just firmware that wasn't tested enough people fastly updated so it was quickly removed. I have the drive and I didn't even see the updated how fast it ws removed. Some simply spam update check and update instantly and get problems.

Pro version is somewhat faster than Evo and significant more endurant meaning it can last longer. Also epic waranty on Pro. I picked Pro over Evo cause of these reasons, wasn't much more over Evo.

I have a 850 evo and its fast. I am sure the 850 pro is fast but after owning my evo I cant really ever say I would need anything faster for what I do.
