AMD 860k or i3-4160?

(I added the pole just for fun :) )

So I build a lot of PCs for friends and family and help a lot of people online with their builds, and their budgets always lead me towards lower end processors. I seem to always go for i3s as intel is always better IMO at all prices. I usually choose the i3 as most simple applications these days still rely on only 1 core, and the i3 has better overall single core performance. But the 860k being cheaper and coming with 4 physical cores sounds very compelling at a lower price over the i3. But the i3 also has a better iGPU. I was wondering what you guys think of these 2 CPUs and which one you think is better.

pretty much the votes say it all

the i3 is the better processor overral and the upgrade path for the i3 is way better since you can drop a i7 later when you can afford the CPU

the 860K is the top of the line CPU for the FM2+ socket

so the only upgrade path is for the 960K CPU

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

The i3 is much better unless the budget is extremely low, and getting the 860x would allow one of the first good gpus (260x type), while with the i3, the gpu would suck.

860K competes with the G3258 (and wins). The i3 is better then the 860K but more expensive.
