Hard Drive Trouble Shooting?

Hello, I have an HDD, it has gotten slower loading the file system(Windows 7) but nothing else, games, pictures, videos etc don't load any slower. Just the file system. and it has made some periodic noises, think it is dying?

Hi there @!

 

Run some diagnostic program to see if any errors or bad sectors will be detected. I see in your signature that you have WD drives, so you can download and run a test with Data Lifeguard Diagnostics, which you an download from here:

 


 

Also, if you decide to go with an extended test backup your data before that because if the program detects anything wrong with the drive it will try to fix it automatically.

Just windows being slow can be also what it says. Windows get slower over time. Thats sad but true fact. Any windows which is over 2 years old is considerably slower than what it was 6 months after installation. If this has started suddenly, HDD could be more to blaim. But you should still see it in other software installed to same drive.
