R9 280X

R9 290

help will be much appreciated, ive used many psu calculators but for the r9 290 config i get results ranging from needing 379watts (on be quiets website) to 519watts ( on cooler master's ) so i dont know what to trust. so just let me know if u can, the 290 im not expecting to be able to run i just wanna know whether  these websites r truthfull or not.

280-280x okey

285-290 I would get a better one, just buy a 750 and you don't have to be worried for future upgrades

CPU: Xeon 1230v3 - GPU: GTX 770  - SSD: 120GB 840 Evo - HDD: WD Blue 1TB - RAM: Ballistix 8GB - Case: CM N400 - PSU: CX 600M - Cooling: Cooler Master 212 Evo

It would probably work, But id recommend Atleast a 600 watts PSU for a system with a R9 280x/290.
Most PSU's are the most efficient around 50% load.

I'm assuming you're not overclocking, overvolting, or otherwise draining more power than necessary. Are you using an 80+ PSU, better, worse? I'm going to assume you're using at least 80+ for now. I'm also going to assume 8GB of RAM.

You should be good up to an 285. After that you're living dangerously, my friend. I'd recommend getting a better PSU (650/750W PSU with at least 80+ Bronze), but you should be alright if your current one is at least 80+. Otherwise you either should upgrade your PSU + GPU or neither.

OK I have 8gb ram and my PSU is 80+, I don't overclock so a 280/280X/285 will be OK then but not the 290, I wasn't ever expecting to run two 290 just wanted to see what was up with the PSU calculators, but I'm kinda on a tight budget so I'd rather not have to get a new PSU so if I pick up any r9 28? ? Thnx

Id say so, But it would not be hugely efficient. Go for the 285 if any of them.

280   - 200 watts

280x - 250 watts

285   -  190 watts

500w could easily do a r9 290...

It depends on the system, In a build with a 8320, it would take about 450-490 watts, It is less with a 6350 But it is still too close for comfort according to me.

Spwath r u sure cause the others say not plus the fx 6350 is pretty power hungry so with that CPU I'm not sure. Plus for all of these GPUs on the manufactures website they all rexomwnd a 750w PSU but for the r9 285 linus did a bud with the fx 6350 with a 400w PSU so I'm guessing it'll be good to go for that GPU

500W will be enough for any of those cards ;)

Are you OCing your 6350? If you intend to OC the 6350 and your 290, your 500W PSU won't be enough. Run both at stock, and it'll be alright.

OC 6350 and will run on 500W with OCed 280 and 280X (YMMV depending on how hard you push). Just don't sit on stress tests too often.

285 consumes the least power of the 4 GPUs you've listed, and 500W will power a OCed 285 and 6350.

I don't plan to OC anything as I don't like the added heat and the warranty void, I tried OCing my 750ti and bricked so had to get a new one. So will 500w power a r9 290 for now and then when I can if I get like a corsair rm650 will it be fine??

according to a video linus made reviewing the gtx 960 he showed the power consuption of several cards, he use an OCed 5960X which draws more power than my 6350 plus he overcloked his gpu's and the r9 290 config only drew 430w so would it be fine or noy according to this??

500w will power a 290 but it won't be very efficient. If you plan on getting a 650w get this one: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-ATX12V-Supply-120-G1-0650-XR/dp/B00K85X2AW/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1424988496&sr=1-1&keywords=psu+650w

I tried that one and it says a 494w PSU for a r9 290 so will it work but when it gives me a recommendation it says corsair cx750w so ??

The psu calculator adds abit of buffer onto the psu recommendation.

The 285 uses less power than the 280 or 280x and 750w is major overkill.

It would also depend on whether the psu can supply the power though. If it's anything other than the 500W1, it should be fine.

Oc'ing settings are on the motherboard or OS and they can't really tell if the part was oc'ed. I doubt a 750 Ti was bricked from just oc'ing and changing the oc setting with the card unplugged might have fixed the issue.

Stick to benchmarks and ignore psu calculators for the most part.

Samsung 840 pro 128 GB ssd

500 GB HDD

PSU: bequiet pure power 630W.

I managed to get another MSI 660ti PE.

So the plan is to do an SLI config. I have a new MB Asrock z77 extream 4.

So how about PSU. Do i need a bigger? or that will be just fine?

Thanks for answers :)

I was using a crossfire 7950 System. Max I ever went up to was 400W from the wall. I think you would be fine with your current PSU on any of those GPUS. I believe I used a 650 Watt PSU then I transitioned over to a AX 760i
