Sudden drop in FPS

EpIcPoNaGe

I was over clocking my GPU yesterday and randomly the fps tanked while running Valley. I returned to default and it still was running at 30 fps compare to 70. It fixed itself when I restarted it. Is this just a driver fail from over clocking or is something wrong with my card. FYI I was able to reach moderate overclock for 24/7 use so I don't think its my card. I haven't had the time to test it on an actual game but does that random drop in fps mean I might need to reinstall my drivers?

my rule of thumb is, only overclock when you need it. if you just run overclock because you want to, you have to expect drivers crashing. overclocking crashes drivers.

I see what you mean. I was just trying to push my card to the max and wanted to know what was causing the sudden drop.

May be the v sync be problem turned it off and check whether that helps.

Pretty sure it's not vsync since it's Valley

Most likely a drop in clock speed.

It happens sometimes with overclocks where the card will spaz out and drop to an extremely low clock speed, which is usually fixed with a PC restart.

Hm I was thinking it might be along those lines but my I read that my card was still running at the overclocked speed.

Fresh driver install and disabling AMD overdrive can help.

I've only had it happen to me when overclocking.
