Dual boot system

kjvnasa

Looking for a way to dual boot OS from 2 separate drives. I would like there to be a menu that pops up right after you boot the system. My Pc is sometimes used by my girlfriend and therefor I would prefer if her stuff stayed on a separate drive. The thing is she does not know a lot of stuff about computers and would be very confused. Just looking for a simple way to make it work. I currently have 1 25gb SSD that is my personal primary drive and a 3tb WD black long term storage drive. I am planing on getting my gf a new ssd and myself another Samsung 840 EVO so I can RAID them. Any ideas?

*just fyi bot will be running windows 8.1 and windows 10 once it is officially released.

All you need to do is install windows to one drive as well as the other. Windows 8.1 has really upped their boot selection manager to be a lot nicer with a mouse interface to choose the OS you want. Make sure you install to the correct drives and to set the correct boot drive. You may need to push the window key and r to open up the run window, and type "msconfig" then go to the boot tab so you can correctly configure the bootloader.

Install Windows on Drive 1.

Install Windows on Drive 2.

Windows Boot Manager will prompt you each time you boot up.

However, if all you want is to have her stuff to be on a separate drive, just use the registry editor and remap her user profile onto a separate drive. If you're worried about her getting your computer infected, don't give her admin permissions.

Does it have to be separate drives? If not, just make two users for one Windows.

Thanks for your help. I will do just that. Are you aware of by any chance will a RAID 0 setup work for this too?
