TV IR Sensor

AznChris

So one day I was using my TV. The next day it would not detect my remote. I tested the OEM remote that came with the TV and different IR remote apps on the Galaxy S4. They've been tested and worked before, but now not anymore. I've tried troubleshooting via plugging in a headphone (read that somewhere O.o), running the setup via the side panel buttons, power reset/cycled, etc. I'm sure that the IR receiver is defective at this time and I don't know what to do anymore. It is a JVC brand if it helps.

I even put the remote up like an inch away from the receiver and tried like 10 feet away too. I don't know anymore

What's the model # of the TV? I can find out what you'd be looking at to replace the IR sensor. Newer TV's have the IR emitter basically plug-n-play...older TV's still required soldering the IR panel. The cost is usually around $20 for the part.

Here is the part you are looking for: http://digipartsdirect.com/productDetail.php?itemInfoId=172- The part # is:  3637-0032-0189

I was not able to find any in-stock from my usual sources. You might see if a local repair shop can order it for you.

Also, some food for thought: If you have an AV receiver, you could use that in such a way that your TV would never need to be changed(except for off and on). The receiver could handle inputs, volume, etc. Just as a way to bypass the IR sensor on the TV if that becomes an unfeasible option.

I took a look at your link, thanks. That's just plug and play after I remove the front panel? I am not very TV hardware savvy, only computers. :D

I also took a look at your AV receiver option and I don't think that's an option for me lol. From the looks of it, they seem to be very expensive.

Oops sorry, forgot to clarify in my last post: The IR board for this panel doesn't require any soldering....2 screws to secure it, and 2 cables(power/data) that are plugged in to the modules on the board. Regarding the A/V receiver...that was just a possible workaround if you already had one either hooked up, or lying around.

As far as doing the repair yourself, it's fairly straightforward actually, take the same steps you would for building a PC: Do your best to work in an anti-static environment; keep track of the screws you take out, taking pictures if necessary. If you have any further questions, let me know :)
