Need help with phone camera !

Go to solution Solved by batpanda,

No .. There was no such issue when I bought the phone ... :(

Yeah it isn't in warranty period ..

i am afraid to say that beound self repair or shop repair it does sound like you ahev covered all of the software vs hardware combinations of possibilities , sorry to say it dude its either not enough of an issue to warrant money or its a repair for money , where the money goes is up to you , good luck

Soo .. There is something wrong with my phone's camera.

I get a tiny dark support in each and every photo which I take. Even when the spot isn't actually present.

I googled it, but didn't find anything ..

Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it ??

I tried using different camera software and also tried using different roms and kernels and changing bitrate and other stuff...

But it still persists

Downloading programs from CNet is not a good idea, as they will commonly include unwanted, and sometimes dangerous bloatware... The more you know.

Here is a highly cropped image of my wall ..

You can see the dark spot in the middle ... The spot doesn't really exist on my wall. :blink:post-187804-0-77222400-1424832701.jpg

Their is a dark spot on each and every pic that I take , and its position never changes , nor does its shape change

How do I fix it ??

Looks like a hardware issue. Can you see a small crack or a small scratch on your camera lens? It should be really really really small.

Nope ... The back of my phone is covered entirely with gorilla glass ... And I looked .. No scratch above the glass over camera lens

you see dead ghostly people :P

but seriously, has this issue been there since the device was new? Are you confident enough to look inside to see if the camera has been knocked or moved and that is what is causing the issue or if there is a replacement camera module that can be purchased? it would seem unlikely that that device may still be in warranty so you could have a go at further investigation

My rig: 5820k 48Gb DDR4 Gskill Ripjaws, m.2 pcie samsgung 256Gb boot, rampage v extreme x99, 2x asus 980 strix  14.5 Tb other ssds and hdds. Laptop: Lenovo Y510P. Peripherals: G13 /RAT 7 /Corsair K70 RGB/ FLY 5

Yeah it isn't in warranty period ..

I watched a " rip apart " video of my phone ,

The camera module is held in place by a tiny clip like thingy and small metal / really good plastic brackets . :(

And the darkened area isnt in on the edge of the photo , its in the middle , so , its highly unlikely that something gets in the middle of the lens and sensor ..

I think it has to do something with the sensor .. May be some pixels got damaged after a fall ?? ..

Thanks for your views

I guess I'll live with it then ... :(

Its highly unlikely that any repair shop will have a spare camera module of a phone launched in 2012 q4 :(

€22 for fixing a dark spot ?? + The risk of messing things up !

No thank you ...

If it were a laptop of a desktop.. I would have probably done it .. Lol..

Phone's internals are way more complicated :P

Especially my phone's ... Lol..

You have to do stuff like remove the internal battery , sim tray , antenna , buttons and some other tiny stuff in a specific order to remove the camera ...lol...

Niet thanks !!

I wouldn't want to spend 200€ for a new motherboard .. :P

lol, motherboard doesn't need to come out, if you know what you're doing it's not that hard but if you're uncomfortable doing it then bring it to a shop and get a quote.

I have a Nexus 4 too, and I think the issue is probably, most likely a spec of dust that made it into the camera, or in-between the glass backing and outer lends of the camera. The thing is so small that you can't really see it with the naked eye from the outside, so I'd say maybe just live with it, or get a new phone (You may be able to get a Nexus 5 for cheaper now since they stopped producing them) But that's only if you have the money, and it would be an upgrade from the Nexus 4.
