Corsair Fans & LED Lighting

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

What about buying the High Performance SP120's and then lower their speed (if/when needed) through the motherboard?

How many feet/inches of LED strip lighting do you think would be just enough to not flood the case (Corsair 900D). I think I want to have just enough light to highlight a few components.

The High Performance editions aren't bad once they get slowed down but they are not dead silent there is a slight low hum of the motor.

As for LED strips you want to hide the strips so they don't reflect off of surfaces so you don't see spots of light or have a direct line of sight to the LED themselves to get that nice even lighting, sometimes if needed a light diffuser can help to cut down on reflections. As for the 900D maybe two or three 30-60cm strips, the benefit of the ones vembutech posted are they can but cut to the desired length.

I'm having a hard time deciding whether to get fans such as http://www.corsair.com/en-us/air-series-sp120-pwm-high-performance-edition-high-static-pressure-fan and then add various LED lighting, or to get the LED fans such as http://www.corsair.com/en-us/air-series-sp120-led-blue-high-static-pressure-120mm-fan

I keep thinking that if I get the LED fans, then I'm committed to that specific color, but if I get the other fans and add my own LED lighting, then I can not only choose a specific color, but I also have options for various lighting effects.

For those who have these fans, what made you choose one over the other (LED versus non-LED)?

Do you have any regrets with these fans?

What case do you have and how many fans are you using?

Do the LED fans produce too much light (do they flood the space or are they subtle)?

Can their light output (brightness) be controlled?

When it comes to having many fans (say 15+), is there really a need for such heavy air flow using http://www.corsair.com/en-us/air-series-sp120-pwm-high-performance-edition-high-static-pressure-fan, or would a lot of http://www.corsair.com/en-us/air-series-sp120-led-blue-high-static-pressure-120mm-fan be sufficient?

Thanks.

I'd get any fan you want and get LED strips to light up your case. The NZXT HUE would be a great option if you don't want to stick to one color or birghtness level.

Fan wise, the SP 120 quiet editions are good fans but not for the money. They are okay-silent and perform alright. They look great but that's about it. If that's what you want then go for it.

And i hope you don't really want to add 15+ fans to your PC, it might take off.

who cares...

It's better to get fans and separate LED lights you can control it better and get nice even lighting inside the case. As for the fans though I do suggest the quiet edition ones since they are not as loud as the performance editions, I'm not very familiar with the LED on the corsair fans but mot will change in brightness in terms of the speed they run at.

15+ was just a random number (which is weird because I try to stay away from odd numbers), but I was just giving an extreme example to give a scenario. I have seen builds online with the Corsair 900D using 23 fans, but I think they built it that way just to show how much space is available.

The led fans are worse than the normal ones due to the material used for the fan being more resonant.

I'd suggest getting better fans if you're going to be getting colored leds since they flood the system and the ringed fans lose much of their appeal.

Corsair Performance Editions are not worth getting.

Get the SP120s, but the quiet editions. Then add LED strips

What about buying the High Performance SP120's and then lower their speed (if/when needed) through the motherboard?

As long as nothing gets in the way of the small rotating mirror ball I plan to put inside. :)
