Computer 2.1 sound setup under $200 USD

dylan43270

I have been into audio for awhile now. I started with my home theater, moved to headphones, and recently decided to step up my computer audio setup. For a long time I used The Cyber Acoustics CA-3602a because I thought it was good enough, and had a decently small footprint.

With the release of the Micca COVO-S' I was intrigued to try those out, which I bought those and a Lepai amp, and replaced my Cyber Acoustics setup with no regrets.  I eventually even updated my home theater with them as rear speakers. They are amazing for the little punch that they bring in such a small form factor. They produce all the bass they can out of their petite size, but you really need a sub to unleash the full potential of sound.

I personally have the 100w version of the Dayton sub, but I have to have it toned down to match the size of my room. I recommend the smaller 80w version for a computer setup, and it will shake your entire room for you.

Most people recommend the Logitech's or some powered monitors, but this setup is really an end game audio setup that can last you for a long, long time.

Here is the Amazon links for everything you need: (Linus affiliate links of course)

Micca COVO-S - $39.95

Dayton 80w Sub- $98.95

Lepai LP-2020A+ -  $27.54

RCA to 3.5mm cable- $6.34

Speaker Wire- $9.82

Better amp power supply - $8.97

The total comes to $191.57, which is just shy of $200. I may add in installation instructions later, but it is pretty straight forward.

Here is a picture of my desk that is work in progress ^.^

Interesting, I'm currently using some shitty phillips 2.1 system. Once I move into a bigger apartment with thicker walls I was going to upgrade, so I'll keep this in mind.

Why not a headphone setup?

Headphones are nice and all, and I love them (you can see my profile for my list of headphones) but headphones try to mimic the effects of a stereo system. If you live somewhere that you can not be loud, then headphones are a good solution, but if you are allowed to be as loud as you want, then there is no comparison to an actual stereo system. It sounds awesome to shake your eardrums, but it sounds even better to shake your whole room/house.
