About to Buy $2000 Gaming Laptop

Anthony10

I am about to make a purchase of a $2000 gaming laptop in a week or two, and wanted to makesure I was not missing anything. Here are the specs:

(Customized Sager NP8652 by XoticPC)

-15.6" 4K QFHD (16:9) Glare-Type Glossy Screen (3840x2160) (Sharp Brand / 60Hz)

-i7-4720HQ (2.6GHz - 3.6GHz)

-GTX 980M 4gb

-16gb RAM

-1TB HDD

$1875.99

plus a 2 year parts and lifetime labor warranty

$1952.62

plus tax

Seems like a good deal to me, I love the panel, only drawback is response time is very slow, but it is worth the amazing image quality/battery life of IGZO and 4k.

The cooling on this notebook is exceptional for its relatively thin chassis

I will probably be playing a lot of games at 1080p, because a 980M is not sufficient enough to run all games at 4k.

Will add in my own SSD I already own.

So, anything I am missing or does this look like a good to go purchase?

I wish I could help you but I have questions too.. Wouldn't running the panel at 1080p look bad? I thought anything non-native was blurry and such? If that's the case, why not get a laptop with a lower-res panel that still has the 980M? Just a thought.

The specs of the machine itself though appear to kick major ass. :)

Will be using this a lot for graphic design and lots of lightweight games, so 4k will not be useless. Yea 1080p on 4k can look a bit bad, but I'm sure it will be fine. Worst case I can just run details at low. The upgrade from 1080p to 4k is $125 for the Samsung TFT Panel, and $275 for the Sharp IGZO panel.

actaully, it'll look great at 1080p since it's exactly one fourth of 4k, so it's perfect scaling.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Looks good to me, you should be able to run plenty of games at 4k (Arma, simulators, most racing games, Source games, older games, etc) but new demanding AAA games you'll likely have to turn it down to 1080p.

a lot of people forget while arma runs like poo it doesn't run much worse at 4k.

Yea, I get like 3-5 less fps at 4k than 1080p xD, still at like 35fps though :\
