Oculus Rift: does it project 2 1080p displays inside the headset or 2 540p images?

kurple

If you look at the comments on http://www.vrcircle.com/post/2560-x-1440-very-likely-the-oculus-rift-consumer-cv1-resolution, there seems to be some confusion as to if the commercial version will be rendering two 1440p images or 2 720p images.

Can anyone clear up how 3d works with the rift, or any devices that use this technology, for me please?

I'm completely lost here and I just wanna hear from someome who knows what they're talking about to explain the whole technology to me. Thank you!

Afaik the Defkit 2 has a 1080p screen thats split vertically into a left side and a right side for each eye respectively. Might be wrong...

It's normally has been one 16 x 9 screen that displays 2 separate images. The 2560 x 1440 res mentioned in that article would be the same, the two images would share the same screen. So maybe you can say two 1280 x 1440 offset 3D images are displayed on one screen.

  • 3 weeks later...

I was chatting about this device to a friend at work who used to be a submariner. He said he'd have given a limb for something like this when he spent six months under the polar icecap. Technology eh. When you can't get out it sometimes brings the outside in. Brilliant. :)

For now the DK2 has one screen at 1080p.

Consumer version will only have the same or higher res. They will not go back to 720p lol. That was terrible and blury as fuck.

So don't worry :)

How this split screen effects the GPUs performance I don't know...

But I don't think anybody is DK2 oculus demos/games on R9 280 / GTX 760...
