The Dell from Hell

Thebman712

Once upon a time, i bought a dell xps 8700. Worst choice of my life.

The Specs were as follows

CPU: i7 4770
MOTHERBOARD: Dell Z87 matx Motherboard
CPU COOLER: Dell Cooler
CASE: Matx Xps 8700 case
MEMORY: 4x4gb 1600mhz Kingston
STORAGE: 2tb Segate Baracuda
GPU: Gtx 645 1gb
PSU: 460W dell psu
some random dvd drive
OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 8.1 64-bit

i hate it so much that i don't have pictures

I then learned about computers, and realized that my performance was shit and gaming was terrible. So I set out on the mission of upgrading my computer. My plans changed a lot about the upgrades before i upraded.

When i finally ordered a 280x and new cx600m and added a fan.

Here is a few pictures

But i was not done there! About a month ago I ordered a some new parts. A Fractal Design define r4, a hyperx 120gb ssd (and a pair hyperx clouds)
and more pictures.

Yes, i used a kitchen, deal with it linus!
Now, I currently am running into issues with the r9 280x so i am running it with the gtx 645 back in it.

i am hoping to upgrade the motherboard, cpu cooler, getting some colored ram heat syncs  and putting the graphics card back in it.

PS, i will be reserving the first 3-4 comments for updates, so please give me a few seconds. BE sure to follow as some cool shit is about to go down with dis rig.

Every single time I see someone I know spend money on a Dell, HP or some other crap I cringe.  I have tried to save these people but they just can't be saved if they won't let me truly help them.

Yes PhysX is sexy and allows you to play games the way they were meant to be played and hopefully when we see his final build he has a GTX 980 or older Nvidia card but no to seeing the crippled GTX 970 3.5 GB card.  Also if he bought an Nvidia card recently I hope he bought it used.

Yeah, I know the feeling. Its why I went of pre-builts completely, though I had to specify a GTX 650Ti OC 2GB, which gave me a $1,153 gaming rig that was better at playing games then the $1500 i7 rig with a GTX 650 1GB made by the same people :P .

My only PhysX card is a GTX 280.

Yea, I use my GTX 970 as a dedicated PhysX card, it abandoned it after the 3.5GB VRAM problem, so now I use my R9 270. The GTX 970 sure does make a good physics calculator. /s

That's to be expected (BTW, where did you get the necessary driver? Because the Nvidia driver disables PhysX if an AMD card is installed.)

Basically what you did was configured your Dell with a crappy video card which lets you go have a crappy gaming experience and now you're blaming Dell for building such a crappy computer? The specs on that Dell are consider high-end. Configure with a better GPU and the power supply will automatically change to a beefier one. I've seen a few Dell XPS befores those with LED lights and what nots, when a hig-end GPU is used, they use their server grade PSU, which don't use standard 3 prong plugs 99% of us have. Instead they use the C-19 type. That Dell you have is a great PC, with that 280x you've installed, it's even better. Buying a new board and other stuffs, seriously you're just wasting your money on getting rid of that "Dell" branding. Upgrade when Skylake-S arrives.

It's still Dell though, the Power Supply is trash, and cable managment is abysmal so your comment is invalid

All of the HarveyNorman stores I visit, every single Dell pre-built I see that costs the same as my computer or more is a hell of a lot worse. (I'm talking about my computer before I started beefing it up).
