I could understand buying it if it was $2000 or even $2500, but $3000? That's absurd..

This is what a "gaming laptop" should be, a gaming machine that is relatively portable rather than a tiny laptop than you can sort of also game on.

The most appropriate usage case I can think for this is for taking to LAN parties.

But then you'd have to really love LAN parties to justify paying $3000 for something that's terrible as a laptop and a not very good as a desktop.

Is this the same GT80 Titan that they had in the CES suite? The far right speaker cone under the 'big empty panel above the keyboard' is actually pushed in or damaged somehow and in the same shape as the speaker cone on the GT80 Titan I remember seeing at CES. Can anyone confirm? @LinusTech @nicklmg

When linus said 8 GB of VRAM on the 980m s, i assume you mean 4GB, per card (not stacking). It really is a small thing, but i remember you mentioning it on the last WAN show. There's no better place to find an example of this misleading advertising, than in a laptop.

And that reminds me. Back when the MSI GT80 Titan was only seen as "in development" I remember some high profile PC Youtuber (not you) complaining that laptops have so much VRAM. So it's not just rookies making this mistake!

Or, i could be wrong, there could be GTX980m 8GB x 2 in there...

Which brings me to my second question: the 970 #VRAMGATE doesn't affect the 970m does it?

Which brings me to my final point. if the base model is over 3000, then how much is the SLI 970, top processor version!!

-snip-

I think he really did mean 8GB per card. O.o  http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-980M-SLI.129389.0.html

Given the absurdity of this number, it would be nice if Linus had clarified this point.

Wouldn't a micro ATX machine with a VESA mount on the sidepanel work about as well as this? You could probably fit it into a small suitcase.Sure, it'd be much bigger than this laptop, but it would cost a lot less too. O.o

In German we call these "schlepptops".

"schlepp" being pronounced the same as lap and meaning hauling or dragging.

Max. Amount of Memory 2x 8192MB

wow.

Also, have you seen a case with a VESA mount on the side? Because that is a fantastic idea!

What i don't understand is Linus says its really long or whatever and u have to use a real mouse, look at any hardcore gamer that uses a laptop they have a mechanical keyboard and seperate mouse they use so wtf the keyboard would be just as far away from the screen if not more and no one is going to rely on a touch pad to game!!!

I'm sure the guys at MSI were super high when they came up with this...thing.   $3000 for a piece of hardware that barely qualifies as a laptop just because they want to put a mechanical keyboard in it.  And this thing looks hideous.

I mean if I were to shell out that much money for a gaming notebook, I might as well get a Razor Blade, which is cheaper than this btw.

That right-most speaker... Same state the CES unit was in... This is the unit from CES... /facepalm
At least Linus didn't do more than overview the audio. With the speaker in that condition, I sincerely doubt the sound was acceptable without disabling it outright.
