Gaming CPU

Go to solution Solved by SkilledRebuilds,

Wow....MLG there almost completely the same *mind blown*

Anantech's comparisons are great, GPU & CPU showdowns that you can choose what to compare...

they have almost the same fps or sometime one more than the other !

Gaming yes, if you were streaming your games video feed to the world, the i7 would help here as the i5 may be utlized a lot more (which may diminish gaming performance)

Encoding video I see it as..... "Are a few seconds to a minute saved worth the $100+ extra for an i7 over an i5" <-- ie: If it's not making you money, consider how important it is...or isn't.

I need help! I was thinking on getting a Core i7-4790K but all my friends told me i7 such and get AMD But i was like fuck amd ! and now i cant decide on if the i7 or amd is better. And i did my research and the i7 has toped the amd products by far and i need help to figure out which one is better for gaming! The game i would like to run smoothy and around 60fps all the time are arma 2(dayz) Arma 3 csgo battefield 4 dieing light and many other game could some one possibly help me out? :D  :)  ;)

I would say something about your friends, but I don't want to insult them, however hollow their heads be.

Please, buy the i7. There is no compelling reason to get an FX 9590. All the 9590 is is an overclocked FX 8320, and it is still worse than the i7.

what do u mean by 95xx?

I think he means AMD's 9xxx series of CPUs (the 9370 and 9590), though 95xx doesn't make sense because the 9370 is named as it is.

-snip-

The 9590 isn't as bad as some people make it out to be, but compared to an i7, it's nowhere near the performance level.

Also, if you're looking at value, get an 8350 or 8320, and OC it. You'll get much better value there, as they're cheaper than most quad-core Intel chips.

I'd recommend intel if you're a newbie to building PCs, and if you're just gaming, get an i5. There's no need for 8 threads at this point in time. (like what @MLG Doge said)

You don't...

I've had an i7 before this i5 of mine (my old 2600K) and this i5 has more performance in Gaming than my 2600K did (even when it was @ 4.4Ghz) (not that it was slow to begin with)

My CPU now, is 4.0Ghz flat across all four cores, an i7 of the same speed, will perform the EXACT same in 90% of games.

Every game I have I see 99-100% GPU usage, no problems powering any GPU so far to get the smoothest and maximum amount of frames out of it.

The ONLY benefit to having more threads capable of being run from an i7 is...IF you use them (rendering/encoding video) < to which the i5 is still no slouch either...

For most...an i5 is plenty! An i7 is nice, but mostly wasted when used in gaming rigs if not streaming or anything...

You'd think more cores (AMD) would be better in Gaming, but Games are not all made equal, but if each core is almost half as slow,.. then it's still an issue... plus when games do only use 1-3 cores, it's not fast enough to get 100% out of your systems performance potential.

@Faceman has a post I refer to (a long read, but SO MUCH FX INFO YOU NEED TO KNOW)

It's really important you read it and see for yourself the Gaming differences...

keep in mind that with the latest flagship graphic cards and some newer games, the i7 will pull ahead if you go crossfire or SLI. that's where the real muscle of the i7 comes into play.

That's true, but if he isn't getting a high-end rig with high-res monitors, it doesn't matter that much - I always get a smooth 60FPS on my 1600 x 900 monitor.

It all depends on his use case, and what's on sale at the moment. Agreed though, the lowest i5 can beat any FX chip out there hands down.

I was lucky and managed to get my 8350 on sale at $129, so it was a steal.

SLI & Crossfire

Are when you put two (or more) graphics card plugged into a motherboard and can use them effectively together... it's not always DOUBLE as people would like, but can breath in some newfound performance where it was maybe lacking...

Power supply concerns have to be taken in consideration too at that point... and if it's worth it, 200fps is wasted on a 1080p 60hz monitor, but not on a 144hz 1080p panel, or using 3x 1080p 60hz screens for one game.
