Just.. Why?

Because people are impatient and want the game now.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

Combo of lazyness and pushy publishers.

Optimization.

This too

Because of pre-ordering.

They already have their money from people pre-ordering so they have no need to release a finished product. Then when sales start to dip they release a patch which brings in a second wave of customers.

Why they can't estimate their release.

The last game that i have whic is optimezed nicely when it's released is only Alien: isolation.

Can u share here what is the last game that u have and optimized since it's released

Far Cry 4 isnt terriblely optimized 45-60 fps with DSR and pretty much everything maxed on a single 970. Then there is unity....

Lazy devs, pushy publishers, impatient gamers, corporate bullsh*t... mix the those and you've got yourself an incomplete game being sold for 60USD + DLCs + microtransactions...

except the majority of preorders comes from consoles. And the devs dont get a cent from preorders until the games released.

People who pre-purchase on Steam are giving their money to the developers IIRC

The certification process of games to Sony and MS basically negate what you hypothesize. A game can't be shipped on console if it doesn't pass certification from Sony and MS. So no, you're wrong, once pre-orders are in they don't just decide "fuck it, ship it in the state its in, we got the cash anyways". This would jeopardize the submission process, which by the way runs in the hundreds of thousands to submit to Sony and MS. Failing submission means delays (it takes 2-4 weeks for the certification process) and keeping devs longer on the project (more costs).

The same goes with patches. They can't just "decide" to patch if sales "sag" there is an approval process before it can be pushed out.

Just.. Why?

Because publishers push for the games to be released and the devs aren't ready. It happened with Total War Rome 2.

Because back in the day before online gaming games where released and that was it..nothing could be done to fix them. Now games are bigger and better they need a bit more tlc and patches allow the developers to do so.
