proprietary fan connection to standard 3/4 pin

MeDownYou

I've ordered a new fan for something, but I am wondering what the plug config is.

the proprietary is 5 pin 4 cable being blue, black, red, yellow and blank.

Can i just shove the config of a black, red, yellow, blue 4 pin into the 5 pin proprietary connector in a blue, black, red, yellow configuration?

It looks like a regular 3 pin in the photo but as long as the connector is correctly pinned (standard fan order) and fits in the regular 3/4pin header I don't see any problem.

The header i'm plugging into is proprietary 5 pin

Ok it seems like a OEM connector some use like Dell, you can either repin the connector to regular 4 pin wiring but check to see if it fits the connector first, if not I would ask for a return or to get the proper product to you since there aren't adapters that work the way you want it but instead are backwards.

Follow the diagram above and just repin or splice onto an existing connector.

For 3pin you would not connect the PWM signal cable, so the blue one, you need the ground wire for a complete circuit.
