Wireless card not working in desktop?

caim1231

So my friend recently got a new computer and it didnt have a wireless card so I decided to give him one and we got it connected and all and the computer recognizes it, but it wont detect any networks, it just gives a red x on the bars. We have already installed the drivers and made sure the correct services are running. its running on Windows 8.1

Try bringing the router closer to see if it's a range issue, maybe use a wireless range extender as well. In my experience those wifi cards are a bit dodgy.

The most common result of insufficient wattage is a paperweight that looks like a PC

Its not a range issue, there seems to be a problem with the devices functionality. In control panel theres a red X next to the connection bars.

Right click on it again and select Diagnose, then if it says "couldn't identify the problem" click at the bottom View detailed information, look at what it found...  let us know the description and manufacture in that result

That is a particularly buggy chip set...

Try downloading a new driver..

I found this, but have no idea if the site is any good, download at your own risk...
