Is an after market cpu worth it for this build?

So I am finally going to be moving over from a laptop to a desktop and am working on my first build with the help of some friends and a lot of research (aka long nights of watching linustechtips cause why not?). I am going for more of a $650-$700 build and after staring at pcpartpicker for about an hour cause I had nothing to do I started to wonder, will I even need an after market cpu cooler? I don't plan to overclock anything except maybe boost the gpu a tiny bit, but for sure wont overclock the cpu. I'm looking at getting the i5-4460 and a gtx 960. Will stock cooler be fine with the cpu? I dont really care sound wise as normally I have my headphones on and music running (usually way louder than it should be :P)

the stock cooler will be fine for the locked CPU

No you don't need a aftermarket cooler with that CPU, and I'd highly suggest you get a 280(x) (50% more vram, x version is flat out more powerful) instead or even a 290 if you can afford it as they're super cheap right now http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-video-card-r9290aedfd.

i have thought about it but i am going to stick with the 960. I prefer nvidia in the long run and in the end this is only going to be a first build to get me through the rest of school and summer while I save up for a real build. heck the only reason i am building a pc is cause razer surround took all my sounds with it when i uninstalled it xD its so weird to game without sound ;-;

You're building a whole new PC just cause your sound doesn't work properly??

My gaming laptop turns 2 in february, its a great laptop but its time for an upgrade. Im going to build a new computer and use it for gaming and use my laptop to run small servers for minecraft or gmod

edit: also sound not working properly isnt quite it. the sound is 100% dead. contacting razer, via, and asus and going through many rollbacks, updates, restores with nothing changing.

Oh okay. As @Fate suggested though, I'd also highly vouch for the R9 280 over the GTX 960. Nvidia is really not doing great these days and 960 will be worse in the long run compared to 280 due to games continuing to use more and more VRAM.

maybe after the summer when i do a true build for myself that will really last ill plop something like that into this build and sell the 960. After all this is more a, learning the ropes of building a computer to tide me over, so later it will get hand-me-downs and stuff :P
