Trouble with wireless Logitech MX Lasermouse

awepicness

I have a somewhat older used Logitech MX Laser mouse lying around. I still have the charger and the battery indicator lights up and has held a near complete charge for weeks with the switch set to "off," so I know there's no issue with that. My problem with it is that it won't be recognized by the Logitech Unifying Receiver, no matter how many times I press the connect button. My question is would it be plausible trying to open it up and fix it (if possible), or should I just leave it to waste away as it was? If I can and should fix it, does anyone know how to open it up and repair it - I also would need to know where to get new parts if necessary, or of a guide on how to fix it? I have a picture I hastily took of the top and bottom of the mouse if that's any help on looking up the mouse.

If you're wondering why I want to fix it, it's because I got this mouse for free since it isn't working and I like the feel of it a lot better than my current mouse (which I also got for free). It also just seems like a fun project.

PC gaming is superior to console gaming, but the gamers themselves are neither superior or inferior to one another: they're just people with varying degrees of understanding.

Does it even use the Unifying Receiver in the first place? I think this mouse is older than the Unifying Receiver, I think it uses the older style or maybe that base station hooks up to the computer?

It has a Bluetooth logo on it so it might connect over that.

edit: yes, this mouse came out 2004, unifying reciever I think came out 2009.

i am pretty sure that base station hooks up to the computer somehow, reading the cnet article says it is an "RF base station" http://www.cnet.com/products/logitech-mx1000-laser-cordless-mouse/

pc specs: 4 function calculator / 8 digit lcd display / colored numeric and function buttons

I have that sitting next to me which is conveniently convenient. I'll mess around with that a little and see if I get anywhere. Thanks for responding!

seems that I have the wrong base station and it's actually just a charger I had. I'll have to scour the house one day for it to see about this...

As indicated on the mouse itself, the moue operates on Bluetooth connectivity. The recharging base DOES NOT connect to the computer. It's only a recharging base.

There's a slight difference between the MX1000 mouse and the MX Laser mouse that you have. The MX1000 was a stand alone mouse that uses RF to operate (The recharging base for this item also acts as the RF receive) while the MX Laser I was part of a Keyboard and Mouse combo for the diNovo Media Desktop Laser which operates on Bluetooth. Just pick up a 5 dollar bluetooth usb dongle and you'll be fine. Assuming the mouse works...

Your mouse is part of this desktop set.
