My guess is 2016. We're getting to that point, but it will never be a you have to get a 4k tv/monitor.

Probably 2015 for enthusiasts, 2016 for techies, and 2017-2019 for your average gamer/PC user.

What is your definition of standard? Officially 4K or UHD is considered a standard, but it's no where near wide adoption.

When a 4K monitor will cost less than 300$ and a mid-range GPU will be able to power it at a reasonable setting with decent FPS... My guess: 2017

It won't fully replace 1080p. 4K (and higher) will be standards for huge TVs and 1080p will remain for anything up to about 40".

Different for monitors because you sit a lot closer to them, but monitors have always had many simultaneous standards and 4K is already one of them.
