AMD is firing shots

OhNoesItsDobby

My bad, the Hexus article was only 30 minutes old so this was the first I'd heard.

That's a very.. arousing appealing price point for the 290x.. Is the 290x better than the 970?

(Please refrain from mentioning AMD's new 3XX GPUs.)

>_>

On-topic, this post actually caught my eye since my MSI GTX 970 is out for an RMA because it has a particularly bad case of electrical noise, so I'm currently sans-GPU. That said I still wouldn't consider a card like the 290/X right at the end of its life cycle, since AMD's new lineup is on the verge of release.

Reckon I'll go with the Strix 970 instead this time. :3

I believe the 2 are roughly on-par with each other performance-wise, but of course the 970 is cooler and less power-hungry. Still, at this point in time you can't really ignore the 3XX cards since the 290 is about to be directly replaced. :P

The r9 290 is an extremely good card for that price point but why the hell aren't we seeing the r9 3xx series cards????

I hope they release them before Q2, i think the r9 2xx series were introduced like in october of 2013!!

Come on, AMD!

At 1440p+ it's better performance.

At this pricepoint there's almost no reason to go with a 970 imo, power consumption/heat is/should be irrelevant to most people.

The Sapphire Tri-x and MSI LIghtning go toe to toe with most 970's temp wise , or if not toe to toe , at least within a ~5C range. Power consumption wise the 970 is the clear winner .

This.

Why go with slower VRAM if you can get a card thats 100 bones cheaper and performs essentially the same.

Hope AMD will fix that GTX 970 real good, tired of Nvidia's bullshit marketing, saying that as Nvidia user.

This is again just marketing strategy, though I have to admit a good one. But AMD's CEO announced already that AMD will not reveal anything GPU wise until Q2 2015. What they do now in order to gain capcity is clear out the old stuff. AMD saif that they will try to sell out as much as they can because of the over production.

That nVidia has this is marketing disaster going on at the moment is a perfect chance for AMD's marketing to sell their cards better.

Stop crying. Card is fine. Just has. An issue in less that 1% of games in 4K

Don't buy for now.  Our dollar is at like a 20 year low.

Amd could drop the 290X price to 250 and people still wouldn't buy it.

Actually people already are all over the 290x and 290 , the only reason i see people not buying them is because they are waiting for the 3xx.

Yeah I never subscribed to the whole "Let's wait for the next new card" way of thinking. What if the 3xx sucks?

If the 300 series wasn't around the corner I would buy a 290x over a 970 all day everyday. I'm not paying nearly $100 more for equal/less performance lmao

Really doubt it will suck. After Nvidia shot themselves in the leg with the 970 outbreak , it should be really easy for AMD to make something  , if not groundbreaking , at least a great deal , i mean they'd be stupid  if they did otherwise.
