Advice about my audio setup.

Airwolf1984

I have the Auzentech Forte, but wondering if it would be a good idea to go to a external DAC and amp like the ODAC with my 9H headset.

I'm using the built in headphone amp otherwise it lacks oomph. It's weird because these are 29 ohms and you'd think that it wouldn't take much to drive them.

Linus did a review of the 9H on his ODAC and said it was pretty good which is why I got them.

I'm just wondering if I'm holding myself back with this sound card or is it still decent with what I'm using?

I'm 50/50 on music and gaming.

Forgive my lack of knowledge in this area and if this is in the wrong sub-forum, my apologies.

Thank you.

What are you plugging it with right now? The included USB thingy or onboard? The included thingy should be good enough, as they've taken every aspects into account when making it as a pair to the headset.

'Sounds good' is a very subjective matter. Lots of people love Senn's HD598 to death, but I wouldn't touch it with a 3 foot pole. This is simply because the sound signature of HD598 is REALLY not my taste. To me, HD598 sounds bad, but I can understand if there are a lot of people think it sounds good. It's a matter of tastes.

Thanks for replying anyway.

I'm plugging them right into the Forte, not the USB sound card included as the volume is way too low.

That's strange. If the volume from onboard is low, there's a possibility that the onboard is somehow weak. But the included USB thingy should output decent volume, as it's designed to pair with the headset. Every volume in the window's mixer at max?

If everything else fails, just get an amp. You won't need something like O2, which is overkill. A simple Fiio E6 or a CMOY would do

Yeah sliders are maxed. It just doesn't seem like it puts out enough power and it sounds muddy. The onboard is actually good sounding, just it's too low in power. It's a Realtek 1150 (no amp) on a Maximus Hero VI, which is why I'm still using the Forte just for the headphone amp.
