First PC build, need advice

Hi everyone!

It's been a few days since I've been planning my first PC build, and would really like your advice to make sure everything goes as planned. The idea is to use this PC for flight simulation (X-Plane 10, possibly @ 3x 1080p sometime in the near future), some video editing, 3D CAD modeling in SolidWorks, and some gaming as well.

As far as parts go, here's the PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hmVjhM

- CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($286.88 @ OutletPC)
- CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($28.75 @ OutletPC)
- Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($129.99 @ Amazon)
- Memory: Kingston Fury Black Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($141.99 @ SuperBiiz)
- Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($131.98 @ OutletPC)
- Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($75.65 @ OutletPC)
- Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card  ($338.99 @ NCIX US)
- Case: Cooler Master Silencio 652S ATX Mid Tower Case  ($99.99 @ Micro Center)
- Power Supply: SeaSonic 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($78.98 @ OutletPC)
TOTAL: $1313.20 (budget would be $1500 / 1500€ max)

As you can see I'm going for the non-K edition of the i7-4790 cause I don't plan to overclock it, and there's a much better deal with it at my "local" store in Barcelona:
Do you think go for the -K version anyway?

Also, for the SSD I'm still deciding between the 850 or the Kingston HyperX 3K, which has been recommended to me by the guy from the shop. Which one do you think is the better option?

The case has also been suggested to me by the guy in the store, and uppon seeing it seems to be very solid for the price. I've seen they also sell the Corsair 230T, but I'm not sure whether it would be a better deal than the CM, as I haven't been able to see it in person. I don't mind if the computer's a bit noisy though, so what do you guys think would be the best choice?

Finally, I've been told I should go for the GAMING edition of the GTX 970, but it seems to be more expensive than the "normal" one even though the design's very similar. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for all your comments,

-- Pol

P.S.: Not only am I planning my first PC build, but this is also my first post in the Forums, so well... all comments are welcome!

Either get a 4790k, or lose hyper 212. Although, I would spend more for the 4790k -- if you're not going to overclock and would rather save the money, then get the Xeon E3 1231v3 as it's basically a 4770 with no integrated graphics.

I'd also go with a cheaper case -- something like NZXT S340, H440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro, Corsair 200R, 330R, Air 540, 230T, 760T, Fractal Design R4, R5.

The 850 is better, but, if the 3k is a lot cheaper, go with the 3k.

Hi,

Thank you all for answering so fast.

Dunno why I shouldn't keep the Hyper 212 even w/o overclocking, it seems to me that everything should be better than stock to keep the CPU cool, especially if I end up going with the "silent" case. Anyway, I was thinking that I could go w/ the 4790K and not overclock it for now: is the extra .4GHz at both base and turbo frequencies worth the cost?

I'd also go with a cheaper case -- something like NZXT S340, H440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro, Corsair 200R, 330R, Air 540, 230T, 760T, Fractal Design R4, R5.

Thanks for your suggestions. I was checking some of the ones you mentioned, and either they aren't available at the store where I plan to buy the parts, or they cost about the same than the CM Silencio. I'd heard about the Fractal Design Rs, but they aren't available either.

The 850 is better, but, if the 3k is a lot cheaper, go with the 3k.

Ok, I'm pretty sure that I'll end up going w/ the 850 as the price difference is really neglegible. Thanks.

Thank you for suggesting this build. However, I think I'll stay w/ the Z97X from Gigabyte cause I like to have the M.2 and the Sata Express ports for future expansion, as well as 16 GB of RAM for 3D modeling (when installing Autodesk Inventor, for instance, recommended config are 12 GB) and video editing. Also, I've decided to go w/ NVIDIA cause their cards are newer (DirectX 12, HDMI 2.0), plus CUDA cores come in useful for some Adobe applications.

Hahah thanks for all the replies.

Still trying to decide between 4790 (266.08 €) and 4790K (314.79 €), which one would you choose at these price points?
