Chrome writing too much on SSD

GrantSor+1

So in my 120GB ssd there's only 26GB of files that are installed
programs installed are MS Office, Chrome , Antivirus and drivers. I installed games and programs that wont benefit from an ssd to my 1TB drive

I got used the ssd around december 15. And I came to check out samsung magician every now and then and I noticed It already had written  .25TB(250GB)  of data and when i used ccleaner I realized it was chrome with the internet cache.

Is there any way to minimize this? Im a bit worried i'll kill my ssd earlier than expected.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those SSDs can handle up to about 84TB. But there's always the chance that you get unlucky and it dies prematurely.  At what rate is that number increasing?

well from the initial of 26GB write (for the OS) last december 15, and after now jan 19, 2015 around 1month and 14days for 250GB

I optimized everthing, downloads and to the otherdrive and stuff, as well as ram caching

You can do what I did - To move Chrome's profile and cache directory to the mechanical drive and use symlinks to fool Windows into thinking its in the original location.

To do that you need this. I suggest rebooting after installing.

1. Enter your Chrome settings and scroll to the bottom. Click Show advanced settings... scroll to the bottom again and disable Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed. Now close Chrome and ensure none of it is running.

2. Open a window (not browser) and search for %appdata% in the url bar. Now click on AppData in the url to go up one level. Enter the Local folder and find the Google folder.

3. Move the Google folder to your desired location on the mechanical drive. Once done, right-click on it and select Pick Link Source.

4. Go back to where you originally found the Google folder and right-click on an empty space. Select Drop As > Symbolic Link.

5. Profit!

Now all the read/write operations from using Chrome will be done from your mechanical drive instead of wasting write cycles on your SSD. You can use the same technique to shift any stubborn program or part of it.

If it makes you feel safer, you can also shift the Google folder in Program Files (and/or x86) this folder contains the Chrome engine, installed extensions and apps.

You can also shift entire Users folder, which contains your desktop and all library folders.

WOW thanks mate, I already shifted out documents, will try this tomorrow. Thanks!
