Asus ROG SWIFT~BEST DECISION YET

Rohan.Le.Roux

This review is by no means a REVIEW, but rather my summarized thoughts on the Asus PG278Q. I picked it up today for $1000 AUD at my local tech store and have been playing around, messing with tech demos and various games. Lets get straight to it. Whilst I love Linus Tech and various other YouTubers, the matter of the fact is, they are being GIVEN these monitors by companies like Asus, and their is no way that their isn't even a bit of snake oil that gets woven into their reviews. I, on the other hand, went out and spent my OWN $1000 on this display, and want to help people, like myself, make good choices.

GSYNC: I haven't noticed it TOO majorly~ tech demos make it seem amazing, but I just haven't really been in a scenario where its been too noticeable BESIDES a quick multiplayer session of BF4, where intense explosions do mess with your frame rate on traditional monitors, causing stutter- this is MAJORLY reduced, frame rate dips to ~35-40 FPS aren't even noticeable!

144HZ: From desktop use to gaming, 144HZ is just plain better. Its SMOOTH, consistent and really does make such a difference to the feel of the game. Up to 144HZ in conjunction with GSYNC, stuttery messes are truly eliminated.

TN: People are going to have their own say here. Personally, the panel looks absolutely beautiful, especially in comparison to other IPS monitors that I have at home. Viewing angle limitations are so minor and I feel that chugging on the fact that its TN is old and people need to get over it and quite frankly look at the panel in person to appreciate how good it truly looks.

I'd recommend this monitor 100%. Even if it wasn't for GSYNC, the 144HZ refresh rate in combination with a 1440P panel just makes for breath taking experiences.

Nice review! Personaly I would take 4k @ 30/60hz over 1440p @ 144hz as it seem like it would take more resources to run 1440p @ 144hz used a 120hz monitor before and it was pretty nice.

8k @ 260hz plz :P

Thanks! In the end I guess its all up to personal preference. I tested out the PB287Q @60HZ, and it felt fine, but man, going to 144HZ is just DRAMATICALLY nicer! :D If the ROG Swift didn't exist I probably would've rather went for a 1080P 144HZ panel over a higher resolution anyday. I don't know if its just me, but I prefer the way a game plays, rather than looks- and 144HZ really does feel amazingly smooth.

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

True story, have you seen the "Why does my 4K monitor only run @ 30hz" stuff going around?

I was considering the ROG Swift but I am piss poor right now....my GPU is in bits haha. Gona get my some SLI shenanigans going on later this year! :D

I too haven't noticed any change with g sync. to me tearing was so infrequent and so minimal it's never been an issue. I'd happily get an amd gpu and forgo g sync if the price and spec were there.

also I agree on the TV front, my 4k monitor is To and it looks gorgeous, I don't have a single complaint. even viewing angles are great..not that I ever sit any other way than straight on.
