new 240gb SSD, old 2tb hdd, want to put OS on SSD without losing data on HDD

I have just bought a Sandisk pro SSD 240GB and I would like to install a fresh OS on it and still be able to access all my files and games, I will have the OS on the SSD and a few frequently played games and a few applications and on the 2tb HDD keep it as a normal drive not fussed if the OS stays on it or not as long as i can access the files and store files on it as a mass storage drive. But i don't want to lose my data and i have read that a lot of cloning tools corrupt both drives.

Any advice is appreciated

If you're just moving games and files, and not OS files or integrated files, you can literally drag-and-drop the items onto your other drive. I moved 445GB of games from one of my HDD's to my new HDD, and it was running as an OS drive at the time. As I learned recently, you can even install Steam on your SSD drive, and direct its games installation directory to your mass storage!

So, to be clear: Install the HDD into your system -> Drag-and-Drop entire Steam directory to new drive. (Or just your steamapps if you plan to install Steam on your SSD.)

Then you either run Steam from your HDD, or follow these steps:
