Cooler Master 212 Evo Review

Hey Guys,

after I used the Intel stock cooler on my Xeon 1230v3 for 9 months, I thought it is time to get something that can cool my CPU while maintaining a reasonable soundlevel. Don't get me wrong the stock Cooler actually worked really well and I don't understand why so many people calling it BS, but since I prepare to get the H440 I thought I need something that looks good through a window too  :).

So obviously I got the Cooler Master 212 Evo, since everyone everywhere is recommending it.

Instead of writing all his specs, I will link you to the official CM Website: http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-212-evo/

I created a imgur album to show some pictures I made using my phone, they are not good but enough to see what I mean: http://imgur.com/a/huFGH

Altough the Cooler looks really good, there is one thing that kinda dissapointed me about CM, the ends of the Copper pipes really don't look like on the website, other than that I haven't found anything that bothered me about the cooler.

Installation was pretty straight forward, there isn't much to watch out other than the fragile fins maybe and if you want there is the option to add a second fan.

Performance wise the 212 Evo kills the stock cooler, not only that it is way more quieter, it is also way more cooler but look for yourself: http://imgur.com/rUm7lwg. You may think that the temperature is not that much better, but I can tell you its way more quieter than before, even while running Aida64 or Prime95.

That beeing said I can really recommend the 212 Evo not only for its small price or its good performance also for its silent and its design which I reallly liked because its symmetric and really clean looking.

Anyways I hope you all liked my review of the Cooler Master 212 Evo, if not feel free to tell my why it sucked :)

Well...

Everyone knew it was a great cooler. Not exactly breaking new ground here or anything

Still though, good review, not so good product to review.

Yeah I know, but I just wanted to make a review and I had to choose between this and a lazy WIFI Card :D

Well, reaching 92c on a stress test pretty much sums up everything that is wrong about the stock cooler :) and bare in mind the 1230v3 is not the hottest cpu intel sells with that cooler. When we start talking i7s temperatures get even higher than that, even with no overclocks (due to higher stock clock speeds). And it was worse when the tdp was higher (for example my i7 2600), while the cooler was pretty much the same.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Yeah but in real world use I never hit more than 70 degrees on some games running few hours so I still consider the Cooler good :)

Its a bit off topic, but how is that Xeon for gaming? I was in the market for an an i5 to whisk away my i3-4130, but the Xeon seems more promising.

Its like a i7 4770, not OCable but really good, I haven't found anything that bothers me about it,and its way cheaper

I've gotten over 100 C on a stock clocked 4770k converting some vid files with a stock cooler...  You have a pretty low tdp cpu, not overclocked, thats why the stock cooler did ok

that it is way more silent,

I can't help myself...  something can't be "more" silent.  its either silent or its not.  otherwise its just quieter

Can it still do H.264 encoding? I heard on another forum due to a lack of an iGPU, encoding is not possible for Open Broadcaster software. Is there a workaround or can a dedicated GPU do this?

Hardware encoding? no.

Software encoding is fine.

I know that it is nothing new but I just wanted to make a review and try things out, so go dodge somewhere else ^^
