Is 1440p worth the cost?

xnoobftw

I heard that 1440p is similarly priced as 4k... and as freesync is so near to coming out (i am able to support it) i was thinking of going 1440p 144hz.. But i heard that it would be insanely expensive/even more ex than 4k.

What monitor would you guys recommend? A 4k one / 1440p 144hz / 1080 144hz or should i ditch the 144hz and go 1440p 60hz(IPS)?

I mainly play CS:GO

Until the prices of the new 1440p 144hz IPS monitors are released its impossible to speculate on pricing

I do think 1440p is a better choice than 4k though, for 2 main reasons

No scaling issues

Easy to drive with a single high end card

It also looks amazing compared to 1080 with roughly twice as many pixels, its very very nice

I am using a 1440p 60 PLS panel and I am 99% sure I am going to get a new 1440 144hz panel when it comes

Personally, I would much rather have a 1440p monitor than a 4k. For one, I think 4k is over-hyped and under-supported.. There are lots of different scaling issues within windows and applications, web browsing etc..

Another quite awesome thing that has come around fairly recently, are the 21:9 ultrawide monitors, I'll either be getting one of them or a 1440p 16:9 when I have enough saved.  :)

Comon voting people , guy says he mainly plays csgo and you vote ips not 144hz :|

I play CS:GO just fine at 60hz

you dont HAVE to have 144hz to be competitive, but if he is going to go 1440p, he may as well wait and get 144hz anyway

21:9 is even less supported than 4k... so not sure of your point, there are 10x as many 4k games than their are ultrawide

4k all the way! cs:go isn't too demanding and easily playable at 4k with a half decent gpu!

forget what everyone else says about 4k!until you've sat in front of a 4k monitor and seen the difference you can't really say if it's worth it of not!

I don't have an issue with anything windows based I use and scaling. I just set all desktop icons to large and increased the DPI of windows to 125%.

some apps are even coming out with 4k in mind, the latest afterburner install made it much larger and easier to use.

a 144hz 1440p panel will be probably twice if not more demanding than a single 4k monitor at 60hz!

CES got this covered.

And they told us in 1982ish times that 256kb ram are enough for every task a pc culd do.... notice something?

people have no patience at all these days. if something they want is said impossible to develop at the time they want it they think THERE WONT BE ANY!

if somebody read that two years later they'd be easily called a fool.

So people: ceep calm and be patient ;)

I'm more concerned about pricing issues... I will probably have around 1000 SGD saved up by march

But we'll have to consider the fact that prices in SG is insanely steep compared to US

A vg248qe cost 550SGD (440USD) here as comparison

I was actually 1440p ips 60hz then i read you mainly play csgo. That made me think, either 1080p144 or 1440p144. Voted for 1440p144 cause you could downscale.

but you'd have to factor in a pair of 980s to make use of 144hz at 1440p! and then a decent 800w+ psu.

im currently debating between a 980 or an r9 295x2 for 4k but neither single card (yeah ones a dual card but still as one) plays games at that res comfortable maxed out.

yeah 4k is still too hard to drive, also SLI 970s/ 290x will still do a good job at 144hz 1440p so theres that

What are OLED?

It stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode and is a type of display technology that is superior to IPS, VA and many other display technologies as it doesn't need a backlight to produce an image and therefore it can produce true blacks, deep colour and contrast. ;)
