Trade in R9 270x or...nah?

Go to solution Solved by Dive5885,

Because 970 is over my price range. Right now Im on a strict budget.

They're over his budget.

Sorry just noticed the budget is $230 max.

I would save up and get a 970 or if you can't wait go for the 960

Hey!

So a month or two ago I bought an  ASUS R9 270x DirectCU II 4GB Card at Microcenter for 210$ and added a replacement plan for 30$ which allows you to bring it back and trade it in for in-store credit (MAYBE CASH IDK I have to check the paperwork), It's a great card and all, but do you think I should bring it back, get my 210$ back and buy something better like a GTX 960? Or if I can get Cash, should I try for a R9 280 or better on newegg? AMD Cards are cheap as hell on newegg right now. I have an extra 20$ so the max I could spend is 230$.

Thanks!

You can get a 280x/290 for that price. I'd trade it in.

Why did you spend so much in the first place?

Because the 4gb 270x is overpriced.

Also more vram = better (/s)

I'd do it. I would go for an R9 290/280X/285/280 in that order, depending on whichever you can afford :)

They have some cheap 290s on newegg, if you can put in an extra $10/$20 for one it would definitely be worth it!

Price/performance-wise, AMD is better.

Nvidia is just much more efficient and runs cooler.

GTX 970/R9 290x > R9 290 > R9 280x > GTX 960 > R9 285 > R9 280 > R9 270/x.

I'd get a r9 280x, it's a better deal than the 960 and if you can, take the cash. Since you can generally find better deals online.

Looks like the 960 is the best option

Edit: Your microcenter doesn't offer anything at a decent price :/

I would save up for something that does not = a vram bottleneck in the future so as to save money.

So nobody thinks the 960 is the best deal here?

Well, nothing is a good deal there as everything is overpriced.

960 is a crippled card. it's like cancer ... you might be able to deal with it at the start but in time it will kill you.

Ah, alright, well, I'd try to hold off a little bit -- a week or two -- and see if their stock gets any better.

Oh yeah I forgot that the 970 is having the V-Ram issue..

It's not even an issue. At sub 4k resolutions it makes no difference, and at 4k you shouldn't be buying a 970.

Stay with AMD, my friend. Stay.

Nobody should want to buy from a company that lies to them.
