Is H1Z1 worth it?

Collin

I was watching some streams and it actually looks pretty fun. Can anyone who has played it tell me if it is worth it or not?

They intend on making it free to play later, unless you like beta testing, I would hold off.

Nope, had two friends thank me a lot for me teaching them they could get refunds. Even if the company fixes the game which is pretty broken, they don't deserve a penny after those lies.

NO! It's an early-access game, so you're buying a buggy mess until the final product.

I bought Dying Light today, and I have to say it's actually really fun (even though I don't like zombie games); buy that, and get H1Z1 eventually when it's not in beta.

My friends and I have been having a blast with the game so far, although right now it still does need a bunch of work so don't expect anything near polished. Playing around with the base building aspect and getting to know the mechanics has been pretty neat though.

I'm also sick of people taking about how SOE lied to them, if you had followed the game at all leading up to release you would know what to expect, instead people hear only what they want to hear, then bitch because they didn't listen.

No thanks, I watched like 30 minutes of it and it just looked like dead island, plus apparently it is a bad port with terrible textures.

Don't the airdrops take a while to fall and are spot able by everyone else?

It runs pretty well on my GTX 760, textures are good.

If you're choosing a beta game over that, then don't expect a good port with great textures!

BTW those bad textures were from the 'medium' setting, it says so on the page.

From CCC (not the best source, but it sums it up well).

Now that the story bit is out of the way, let’s talk shop for a minute, beginning with the most evident thing, the graphics. I have to tell you that I am truly blown away by how gorgeous this game looks. From every angle and every vantage point, the sprawling, desolate city has been created in vivid detail and the lighting effects help to create a sense of realism to your plight that can even make you feel a little like this event could actually happen. Or at least, if it did happen, this is what a decimated major city would look like. There were a few framerate issues during early gameplay, but they could have been due to the fact that the game was installing while I was playing it. But even still, the issues were there. However, apart from this one little thing, I found no other fault with the graphical content. Animations were fluid and timely and well-synced with the voice audio and atmospheric audio.

Yes, when an airdrop is happening it's very obvious and there plenty of time for a good amount of people to make their way to it. You also are not guaranteed a gun and even if you do get a gun its not always at 100% condition.

Its a very fair system, I do however think its stupid to be paying for airdrops this early on, if the point is for players to be testing the game and critique balancing don't have us pay for this BS just yet.

I would say it's up to you to say if it's worth for you. 20$ to beta test(lots of bugs and lots of server downtime) or wait for it to release and play it for free.

The actual P2W stuff isn't as bad as people make out to be. The paid airdrops that had guns in them were know since August last year. The problem that started it was that there were lots of different bugs that happened all at once for one popular streamer. He was alone on the server(other people could not join), The airdrop happened where he was at not in the xxx meter radius as it should have and the zombie AI broke when they spawned. Basically bugs on Early Access game, who would have thought that. But people still go around yelling P2W.

Sick of people saying it's pay to win.

I bought the game release day, hated the idea of these pay to win loot crates...got a refund which was nice of them.

Left the money in my wallet and a couple of days later seen a tweet from the dev explaining the loot crates and how they themselves watched a gameplay stream and seen how much the loot crates where pay to win and didn't want it to be like this.

They have adjusted the chances of what you get in these crates, The crates also fall very slowly and have about a 300m drop zone. It will not drop exactly where you call it in.

The chances of actually getting to open the crate without having to fight to do so are slim.

It takes about 10-15 seconds to actually open the crate. You can see how it's not just outright pay to win as there is a good chance you wont get the crate you called in.

Bare in mind it's early access which means you are testing and helping the development of the game (including the f2p model)

I like it.

Let me just chime this also,

when you first start you always start with
bandages to heal
you can shred your shirt for cloth which you can combine with stick that are litteraly everywhere to make a bow.
you can use 1 stick to make an arrow
the bow can easily kill in one shot.

So with that in mind right from the start everyone has the potential to have a weapon that can kill anyone in one shot (just like those so called pay to win guns can)

If you enjoy the idea of Zombie survival games, and are OK with paying to play test a developers game, I say go for it. H1Z1 seems to coming together pretty well for its short development time. They also have a far superior engine when you compare it to other games of the genre, ie: DayZ.

Also, don't pay attention to the people who are: 1) complaining that H1Z1 is pay to win (because if they actually looked at the information behind the micro-transaction structure, instead of following the interweb bandwagon, they would realize there's only a slim chance for it to possibly contain a weapon) and 2) complaining about paying to play an early-access game (seriously, the developers are not forcing you to play test their game and give them money. Steam also gives a big disclaimer about early access games. But understand people are not appreciative of all the other free games and free early accesses that are available).

I watched Jim Sterling play the game.

He ordered an Airdrop and it took 2-3 minutes to get to it. There were like 4 other people there trying to get it.

The best part? The airdrop also contained a dozens of zombies, easily killing all the players.

Anyway, it's a really player driven game, pretty much PvP. From what I've seen, you'll probably have more fun running over people with a car than interacting with zombies.

I like to call these type of games, like H1Z1, DayZ, etc, asshole simulator apocalypse edition.

I'm telling the truth! I AM a 12 year old girl!

Also check h1z1 twitter and you will see how dedicated they  actually are. One thing that they want to implement is "moarr zombies" which seems to be a forgotten thing in dayz.

As yeti said, the game has already came a long way.

I don't play it much but i do really like it.

I play it once or twice a week which is a good things as i actually see big changes once i play rather than the trickling in one at a time :)

This is my funniest moment in the game yet. I don't know if anyone else will find it funny but honestly, when it got to the end i was in bits laughing at my screen.

(I am in no way trying to advertise my youtube channel, i don't even upload videos to my channel apart from this one soley for the op)

I had just spawned and obviously this guy must of spawned not to long ago too. (he started it :) )this was also quite a while ago and the game has been updated a lot since this, so don't let this be a representation of what the game is like now.
