Best all-purpose headphones? + DAC/Amp combo?

Jackowol

Hey guys (and girls),

I plan on buying some new headphones the replace the ones I currently have (a Corsair Vengeance 2000 and a random cheap Sony headset).

I would like headphones that are all-purpose: gaming, music, movies. I would also like them to have a nice sound: not too flatty or too bass heavy, and to be 3.5mm jack.

If it is possible, the headphones should be under $215. I thought about buying Mayflower's Fostex T50RP Version 1.

I'm also planning about buying a DAC/Amp combo to get the best of these new headphones. It needs to be multi-platform and portable (so I can listen to music on my iPad and on my computer). I thought buying a FiiO E10K.

Are these good choices?

Thanks!

Can't use the E10k with your iPad. You could get an E7k or E17 and just use the amp of the unit for iPad.

Nothing wrong with those headphones, but many will probably chime in about what THEY think the best "all-purpose" headphone is. I'd say, if you're already interested in those then grab 'em.

So I'll just buy a Mayflower T50RP Version 1 with a FiiO E07K.

Also, can I plug a 3.5mm cord from my iPad to the E07K? Would it work?

Yes.

You can, but with a workaround that may very well be too much and take away the 'portable' aspect.

Might be a good idea to read the thread before posting, I'm beginning to notice a pattern here.

Those Fostex are pretty good. My main pair is modded similarly to Mayflower's V1 but it wasn't done by him. It sounds pretty fantastic and I've been through very many different pairs of headphones and these are what I'm sticking to now. Although I don't really like the Shure pads.
