Audio proccessors on smartphones.

dandrix

Hi. I would like to know whether higher end smartphones get better audio chips compared to low-mid level phones. I have kinda in between low and mid end phone, it has pretty good audio chip from what i can tell, but problem i face is that when i turn up volume to max levels annoying crackling occurs, my first thought was that audio files were damaged or poorly ripped, but when i listen to same songs through DAC on my sound card theres no crackling there. So i was wondering would upgrading to high end phone someday would resolve this issue, or all phones get the same kind of audio chip.

P.S. Sorry for my bad grammar and english skills.

Many high-end phones have similar and pretty good audio chips. The only two of which that stand out are the HTC One M8, which is pretty much built from the ground up for best audio quality, and iPhones, which have been known for including good audio quality hardware (although M8 is still king of audio in a smartphone).

Low and mid end phones may have low end audio hardware or audio hardware from a high-end phone. From what I can tell my Galaxy Avant sounds just as good as my "flagship" S3 so they probably use similar audio hardware, but compared to higher-end HTC, even if it's not the latest model, I tried an HTC Desire 510 and the audio quality sucks when cranked up high.

There definitely is a difference with the audio quality between low-mid range smartphones. It's not your audio source. However pretty much all high-end smartphones will have "good" audio quality, with those that purposely have higher-end audio hardware being even better.

Some have better audio, for example, my one m8 can do the same volume at 60% as the nexus 5 did at 100%, because it has a better amplifier.

I don't always have time to study, but when I do, I don't.

Well the M8 is one of the few that are purposely designed with a better amplifier. Some like Galaxy S4 or LG G2 that competed with the Nexus 5 will have pretty much the same sound.
