Need new laptop with at least 5 hours battery life under $800 AU

Hey guys,

I am looking for a laptop for school use. Here are my preferences :

 

-A decent graphics card is preferred, but I'm not really concerned about running games at ultra settings 1080p. I was pretty happy with the GTX 650M on my old laptop.

 

-The longer the battery life, the better. Anything above 5 hours is good, but higher is preferred.

 

-Must be smaller than 14"

 

-Either a 240 GB SSD or a 1TB Hard drive is fine

 

-CPU doesn't matter

 

-RAM needs to be at least 4GB

 

After some thinking I have decided to change my budget to around $1000.

After some thinking I have decided to change my budget to around $1000.

In that case I'd suggest the Lenovo E450. 14 inches, great battery life, and the latest power-sipping yet great-performing Broadwell CPUs. The new Intel HD 5500 will be able to still play recent and older games nicely as long as you're willing to turn down some settings, the screen is only 768p anyways.

With the $200 that should be enough to add in an SSD and 4 more GB of RAM to meet your needs.

 

You can also step up to the $999 budget if you're willing to spend a bit more past $1000 to get an SSD. The $999 model has 8GB of RAM, a 1080p screen and also adds in a dedicated GPU. Worth the $200 IMO
