DVI VGA adapter resolution problem

haifisch

Hi,

Here is my problem which I've searched solutions for, but nothing helped so far.

I have a samsung E2220 1080p monitor and it only has a VGA input. It was connected to an asus 5670 1gd5 VGA port.

Now I got my hands on a 660 which I need to test, but it does not have a VGA port.

So I bought a DVI to VGA adapter, and connected my monitor to the 5670 DVI-I port using the adapter to test if it works. But here is the problem: I cant find my native screen resolution, and my monitor gets detected as "generic non-pnp monitor", even after reinstalling amd graphics drivers. Now what's even more interesting, that if I unplug everything from the video card and plug in the monitor to the VGA port(the way it worked perfectly before), my monitor does not turn on, just a blinking LED

Thanks for your help in advance

Update:

Now I turned my pc off, then unplugged the adapter and connected to monitor to the 5670 VGA port. But the original problem is still not solved. :/

So the question is still the same: Why doesn't the DVI to VGA adapter work as I expect?

@haifisch please follow your own topics so you get notifications when someone replies to them.

(maybe the exact same is not there, look for something similar, I've translated it from Dutch)

Open the NVIDIA control panel, go to Monitor, the click on change resolution. Then, at the bottom of the window, it should say "change/configure/whatever", click it. Then click on create custom resolution. Change the horizontal and vertical pixels to the appropiate number, and change your refresh rate to what it should be (probably 60Hz). Click test, and save it, then you can select it in the nvidia control panel, back at change resolution. Hope this helped.

Now I solved my problem, or better say the problem solved itself, because now it works, but I dont know why.
