Can you dual boot w7 and w10

slifer

So with the announcement of the free upgrade, will it be possible to dual boot windows 7 and windows 10? Using the same key? Or will you need to purchase another key for that.

If you can get your hands on the ISO, I don't see why not

It should be possible, you may have to create a separate partition on your drive.

I would recommend using something like VMWare though or virtualbox.

Yes, but you wan to disable fast startup in Windows 10, so it does not hibernate to the kernel on shutdown, as you should never hibernate one OS and boot into another

So you will be able to boot up with the same key? or will I need another key? Is this supported by microsoft themself or will I need to get other stuff?

You can dual boot the Windows 10 TP and Windows 7 even though it is currently unavailable from the website, and it works fine. However, I dont think the final release will work the same way

you will need different product keys, you can't use a Windows 7 key for Windows 10 and vicea versa

Dual boot, of course you can. Exact same way you DB any 2 Windows.

Keys, all we can do is speculate based on other occasions, when they did the $30 upgrade from 7 to 8 you had to submit them your 7 key then they emailed you a new key for 8. I think its gonna be a very similar process tbh, website with form, send them your 7, 8 or 8.1 key and email and they'll reply with a 10 key and download link for the ISO. Either that or they'll release an upgrade app which you run on your system and it auto checks everything then gives you a key.
