CPU Red LED, Something crazy

Go to solution Solved by dragoon20005,

If you read my above comments I cannot even get a post.  So of course I don't hear the HDD, thing wont even boot.  No noises either the CPU LED just shines red like it's not detecting it/ not getting enough power.  Sorry if I sound agitated its just everything that could have gone wrong with this build did.   (EDIT)  BTW tried my power supply with a friends computer who has almost the exactly same build + same CPU and it booted his comp fine.  So my PSU isn't faulty.

now i either point to RAM or mobo for issues

test the RAM on your buddy PC and make sure they work

if they are fine

your mobo is the culprit

OK, so this one's a doozie.  I just recently built my system and had some problems with it but I got it up and running for 5 days no problems.  The temps were always cool and the highest temperature any of my components hit was my GPU when I was benchmarking it.  (70*c)   I did the XMP profiling on my RAM but I haven't even gotten to over-clocking or messing around with the CPU yet.  I have an aftermarket heatsink and it's kind of jerry-rigged but it works.   Well now it won't boot and my CPU LED just shines a bright red.

Specs:
MOBO-  M5A99X Evo R2.0

CPU - AMD 8320fx Black Edition

GPU-  Vapor-X R9 280x

RAM-  G-Skill Ripjaws 2133 MHz 2x4 GB

PSU- Corsair HX-650  80+ Gold

The Bios version I have is the most recent seeing it last updated in 2014 -    M5A99X EVO R2.0 BIOS 2501
I did the BIOS flashback before I even put my build together.  So it's on the most recent version.

I'm going to try a bunch of stuff today to troubleshoot it.  I'm going to clean thermal paste and try taking the core out (Mobo, RAM, CPU, GPU) and try to just post it.  I'll be going to a buddies today to try his PSU just incase mine somehow crapped out in 5 days.  Just looking for suggestions.  Thanks.

Everything plugged in properly?

Visually inspect the CPU for bent/ broken pins, inspect the RAM slots as well.

I'll try everything I can today and if I'm still lost I'll come back to this post.  I'm gonna wait for my buddy to wake up so I can try his PSU

" I have an aftermarket heatsink and it's kind of jerry-rigged but it works."  Care to eloborate? If the CPU's overheated then, yikes.

The heatsink that I ordered didn't have the correct standoff's so I was able to use the intel standoff nuts for the board.  It sat down nice and snug and I never OC'ed the CPU that high.  I only went from 3.5 to 3.77 and that's without changing voltage or anything.  Also the temperatures never got above 40C because I never had the chance to stress test it or play any games.

Do you have dual bios? Or a bios flashback switch. If so try them.

I have UEFI, and I have tried resetting the CMOS and I re-flashed the mobo to no avail.  The CPU Led just shines red like it isnt getting enough power even though my PSU is fine.  :(

Bent CPU Pin?

I'm not sure if the motherboard has a bent pins or not because I don't have a magnifying glass but from what I can see they're all straight.  Same with the CPU.  :(

oh. At least the fan is spinning . CPU is fine. That's s silver lining.

One thing i noticed on  Asus motherboards i have used is that the BIOS/Firmware of the board if not perfect can have some weird effects.  I would see the red light and hear the Storage HDD  hard at work. the boot order was somehow changed and the PC kept trying to load into windows from an empty  1TB HDD. That can be loud.  any Hard drive noises at boot?
