Solid build. I like to see the use of the 285. It didn't get as good a reception as would have expected but i still like it :3

Not really all that much better. The cpu is an upgrade for sure, but the gpu is actually a bit slower than the 285...

Now dont get me wrong, the 960 is an AWESOME card, but it's still hauling price premiums right now due to it being so new... So the prices sometime in the next month or two will drop on it to make it more worth the money.

Would probably swap that V300 for something like an 840 or MX100

R9 285 is perfectly fine for 1080p, although in new titles (Far Cry 4 e.g.) you will have to turn down graphic setting slightly. I have Sapphire R9 285 Dual-X (1030/1050OC, 40% fan max temp. 71) and can play FC4, very high preset in 45 - 65 FPS. Alien Isolation - ultra settings with v. sync, Evolve (beta) v.high. at around 60. I also have an i5 4690k.

Edit:
1500 memory OC*

Born to game, forced to work.  -_-

I'd personally go with the new 850 EVO. :)

@Atmos 960 is only beaten by 280x at that price range, look at some benchmarks (at this morning I looked at Tek Sydicates, 280x was faster than 960 and 960 faster than 285)

960? 285? How about crushing 1080p with an R9 290 instead

  • 2 months later...

The RAM in the original build doesn't make much sense.  It's generally cheaper to buy in dual channel kits, and for the money, you can do a lot better.

In the $80 price range, you could get 8gb of some sweet Mushkin Blackline RAM at 2133.

You really should use that price/gb breakdown when choosing parts with PCpartpicker.  It'll save you lots of cash, or allow you to get much better parts for the same amount of money.
