Get One Nice Card Or Two Not As Nice Cards?

tjack11

So I am putting together a new rig and I am stumped on if I should get a single EVGA 970 or should I get two EVGA 960. I have 3 monitors and I run all 3 on display port. I really don't know what to do cause I don't want to waste money on something thats gonna suck.

Go with a 970 or an R9 290x.

The two perform very similarly, the difference between the two being that the 290x runs hotter and is less efficient (consumes about twice as much power)

Go with whatever is cheaper.

IMO a 1x 970 is probably better, it'll be better if a game has shit SLi support.

pc specs: 4 function calculator / 8 digit lcd display / colored numeric and function buttons

If you're trying to power 1080p to get high refresh rates, dual mid range GPU's is a good option.

If you're trying to power multiple monitors, you need a larger framebuffer than mid range offers.

280x CF may be viable, particularly with the overpriced 6gb variants.  I'd recommend atleast 4 GB though.

EDIT:

i guess I should add, this is only relevant if you use all 3 for gaming.

4K // R5 3600 // RTX2080Ti

Always get the best single card you can afford.  Less problems compared to an SLI (really not a big deal).  If you decide that you need more graphics horsepower, you can always buy a second card later.

Do you have a budget? If not I'd just get 1 980 and if needed you can add up to 3 later.

I've Decided to go with the Gigabyte geforce gtx 970 cause its within my $350 price range and it has 3 display ports, 4gb of gddr5 memory and has great cooling.

I would suggest to go with a Single 970. You can SLI it later.

960 supports only 2 way SLI. 970 does 3.

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

The only time i support cfx is when people want to buy a 980 i usually recommend two 290 cfx or two 970 sli.

I recommend a 290x simply because im boycotting nvidia and wont recommenda nvidia card untill they fix their shit.

Cheers.
