Great review, seems to be a massive waste of money, so I wonder how the new sony walkman will hold up, since its even more expensive, I assume its a similar story

There is another great written review by the guardian (eww) but it says a similar thing to Linus

if anyone is interested

I've been really interested in digital high quality audio for years now and have been really annoyed at the industry's 'revolutionary' push for 24bit 192khz audio just because it's a larger number so it must be better quality. People forget the audio engineers and professionals of the 80's that designed the CD standard of 16bit 44.100khz were smart people and knew what they were doing when trying to outperform Vinyl that had been around for 90 or so years.

I just want to say I'm super impressed with Linus for doing a in depth review and all the proper research and not parroting off the usual PR crap about high res audio that SO many journalists do. These are the main reasons I pay a lot of attention to your reviews and keep coming back.

Keep up the good work!

Maybe there's a case for letting people enjoy their placebo.

So many people buy electronics because they feel they're getting something good, when they actually aren't. The problem I have with that usually is that it's driving manufacturers compromise the utility of computers over aesthetics undermining the progress of general purpose computing, but in the case of music players it seems benign and it helps some suckers enjoy music more.

I mean homeopathy is generally tolerated.

Meh. I'd rather have a Toblerone while listening to my "crappy" 320kb/s MP3s in cheapo $20 headphones in my Android player...

So it doesn't have enough CPU power, hasn't got enough battery life, has a rubbish screen, a badly thought-out UI, is just plain ugly and unergonomical and doesn't actually produce better sound than most similarly-priced Android phones would with Poweramp ?

Nice

This is bulkier and has less functionality than my phone for a similar price. I see no reason that this product should exist.

Negative reviews are fun to watch. ^^

If only you could haul Pono's proponents into a blind audio test...
