Audio Question

GamerGuy

Hello, I just got a new pair of HD 558's and wanted to know if there is any way I could make them sound better.

I also found these tabs under 'Speaker Properties' , should I change anything or leave them as they are?

you could kick that sample rate up as high as it will go, but it's not gonna change much besides the noise level and the dynamic range about 1% on average

They sound the way they sound, and not much will change that.

Is it weird that after using these headphones: http://www.amazon.com/Superlux-HD681EVO-B-HD-681-Black/dp/B00CAG1ZAQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1422245386&sr=8-3&keywords=superlux and now the HD 558's I feel nothing has changed in terms of audio and that the HD 558's are a bit more uncomfortable even than the Superlux. I'm just upset that after investing this much on these headphones I expected them to be so much more than what they are.

You think the HD558s are MORE uncomfortable than plether pads?  That's a rare opinion right there.  Yeah, I keep writing these silly parody reviews trying to impress upon people that it's not as big of a difference as they think.  I actually have a review I've gotta write up soon concerning a certain pair of headphones and that notion.  One of these days I'll stop being lazy and just do it.

Probably because audiphiles are despicable basket cases who like to pretend that there is a reason to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to listen to music.

I have to agree with him with cloth my ears eventually get irritated and itchy (not allergic itchy) plether is much more comfortable imo plus it helps with sound isolation.

Op did you look up any reviews on the HD558s to figure out if you would even like them?

I was told on LTT that they sound perfect, looked up some reviews which were saying how these were comfortable and sounded good, and these went for sale for 90$ so I bought them.

I don't think I can even recognize the difference between these and ~40$ headphones lol. Is there a point/budget where headphones tend to sound only a bit better if at all the more expensive they are?

Some crappy mother board, was told that it won't matter since these headphones need 50 (something) to power them up.

50 OHMS impedance.

There are more factors that come into play though like the amount of static on the line and what not. @ShearMe has far more knowledge than me on this field.

It's 50 ohms headphone impedance, but that's not something you should be concerned of. Even 300 ohms HD650 runs fine on most onboard and mobile devices.

You could be experiencing bad damping factor, which is your onboard's output impedance exceeds 1:8 rule of thumb. Basically, if the onboard's output impedance is greater than 1/8 of 50 ohms of the headphone, it will deteriorate the sound a bit. If this is the case, you could try getting a cheap Fiio E6 portable amp. Not so much to get it louder, but rather to benefit from its ultra low output impedance.

Alternatively, without trying to be rude, it maybe that your ears are not sensitive enough to tell subtle differences. Fortunately this can be trained, tho. Google 'philips golden ears challenge'. It's a set of quizzes and knowledge base. Do it till the end, or at least to the stage of 'golden ears', and you'll find your ears become more sensitive to subtle sounds. Happened to me.

Nope!

There's certain expensive headphones that have an EQ unlike any cheap headphone so you can't compare, and there are certainly differences in comfort and build quality, but truthfully, most people on the planet won't care about the differences.
