Introduction and Concept

Hi Everyone,

Im back with another project, the last version of this one fell flat on its face due to a number of reasons, but this is pretty much version 2.0 of this concept.   The basic idea of this was to use 3D printing to create a case from scratch.  The original version was a full scale, full tower.  After getting some of the parts printed I started to find that there were some flaws with the plan, so I scrapped it and started from scratch.  the new plan was to make this a robust and semi portable system that I can travel with to and from LAN parties.

UPDATED DESCRIPTION (2/6/2015):  To clear up some confusion, in case people were confused.  The majority of this case will be 3D printed, all of the frame will be 3D printed while the rest will be made out of metal, acrylic/plexi, etc.  Things like the motherboad tray, for example, will be made out of a aluminum.  Hope that clears this up a bit as I don't want people to get the wrong idea.

I will be keeping both forum and video logs of the progress. Stay Tuned!

holy pornographic pictures.

I cant wait to see how this turns out. if its 1/3 as good as those concept pictures, id throw my sexy s340 right out the window

edit: the one thing I love about my s340 and you might want to consider, a "basment" for your powersupply. something to cover up all those cables.

I had considered it, however, I wanted to keep the system as small as possible while including all the features that I was looking for.  The power supply will be fully modular and will have custom cables made to length to help reduce as much clutter as possible.

This is so awesome I will download it if i ever get a 3d printer and convert to mITX( I don't even use more than 1 GPU in my system anyway)

It's not a bug, it's an undocumented feature!

It is ITX dude.

What I meant is that I would convert my system configuration to ITX ;) not that I would make this case in an  ITX version(it already is ITX) :))

Needs a handle

Subbed

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

Could we get a good, solid top down view?

You might want to stop making 2 posts when you can make 1.

Hey I tried something similar last summer but never actually printed my case. This upcoming summer I am going to have access to a very large 3D printer owned by an aerospace lab. If your project turns out well, would you mind sharing your 3D files?

Also: what modeling software are you using?

Sorry for the late reply, been a bit crazy these past few days.  Im using solidworks as my modeling software.  As far as sharing the modeling files, that will depend on a number of things, if there is enough interest, I might made these as custom cases for indivduals who can afford them.  We will see in the coming months as this project progresses.

I like it. It's nice. Rounded corners would be better though.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.
