Buying a modem

I am going to be upgrading my internet soon to 50 down and 5 up. I am wondering what modem is the best to get and I already have a router with WiFi.

 

Also my ISP has a list of modem that they approved, is it necessary to get one of those?

motorola is what i always liked, but there owned by arris now.

 

i honestly dont think it matters what brand. 

i work for a contractor for a cable co and ive never had an issue installing customers own modems.

i even used my own modem instead of the cable co,

They have a very long reputation as one of if not 'the' most reliable cable modem on the market. It can also handle something like a 300/100 connection so you should be able to get quite a bit of use out of it. It seems like amazon is little high on their price right now, so I would recommend shopping around, standard retail seems to be around $90.
