Gigabyte R9 280x still worth it?

Is it still a really good GPU? Will it run most games with an i5 4690K at ultra and super high? I also do some video and picture editing

depends on resolution, but on 1080p it will perform fine.

Well, R9 280 is basically the same card with lower clock speed (and some other differences, but you won't notice the performance difference when they're both clocked the same)

Yea it's still a great card, but if you can, I'd recommend getting a 290 instead as they're only a few bucks more (in America at least)

Yeah, get a 290 for 1080p. Make sure u get a non-reference one though. It is the perfect card for 1080p ultra

7870/270-1080p
7970/280x-1440p
290(x)-4k (maybe not with 4x msaa ofcourse)

280 is a 7950 which is just slightly cut down from 2048 cores to 1792.
285 is the same 7950 chip on a 7870/270 board with 2gb of vram instead of 3gb and a 256bit memory bus instead of 384bit.
clocked the same a 7950/280 is about 87.5% of the performance (with a margin of error), the 285 is the same except unless you hit that 2gb vram limit.

yes its still a great card, TTL has CF 7970's in his rig ORCA last I heard and don't think he's changed.
because they've been out longer than 285's 280's are about the same bus except with more vram & bandwitdh, 280's are only a little more but so are 290's.

a reference card is when the circuit board of the gpu is the same as what AMD used when they first released it, the components are the same (pretty mucH) the layout and locations, makes it very easy to find a watterblock should you want to watercool.

reference coolers are usually a blower design but i'd recommend an AIB aftermarket brand like asus or msi or gigabyte as they usually run cooler and quieter, plus after market companies can sometimes change components to allow voltage tweaking and better overclocking, though from experience you'll usually hit the silicon lottery 90% of the time before components make a difference, exceptions being lightning editions etc but these cost FAR more for gains that dont reflect that cost.

Not at all. You would be better off getting the 290 which is like 50 dollars more or even less if you get it on sale. It offers substantially better performance, better and newer technologies, and in my opinion a much better bang for your buck.
