Can use some advice on upgrading

So i was thinking to upgrade to a gtx 970.

this is my current set up.

intel core i7 2600k

ASUS p8p67 pro rev 3.1

24gig ddr3 memory (3x 8gig)

2x Geforece GTX 560

so my question is what would you guys do.

get a gtx 970 or something cheaper?

or perhaps save up some more money and get a new motherboard as well.

and is it even compatible whit my current motherboard.

ps-

i mainly use my computer for gaming.

and work which is 3D rendering and modeling.

thanks already:)

Welcome to the forums!

The 970 will work great with your CPU/mobo. If you get a new mobo, you'll also need a new CPU (as the sockets are now different than your current one). You also may want to get a 4th stick of 8GB ram (identical timing/speed to the others), to max out your mobo.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

In regards to performance, 290x > 970 > 290.

However, there is price and power consumption. The 290 offers almost as much power as the 970, for a lower price ; however, the consumption is so big that it might be better to get the 970 in the long run. The 290x is stronger and more expensive than the 970, and again, with much higher TDP.

Grab pen and paper, and use some math. All 3 are good options.

Untrue

970 > 290X especially when overclocked

Get a GTX 970. It's really worth.

You have decent rig.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

I wont recommend a 970 since im boycotting nvidia.

i will reccomend it when they fix their shit since its an excellent card if you dont consider #vramgate.

I will recommend a 290x.

Liked you post but what the hell is a vramgate LOL.

The whole VRAm issue , some people call it vramgate.

xD

I rather call it a Vram cripple. vramegate just sounds ridiculous LOL.

Get a GTX 970. Less heat to dissipate, and fantastic performance, even if there is an issue. All the conclusions from reviewers and benchmarking still stand, as this issue isn't new.  In fact, if they fix it (if there's something to fix), the performance will only get better.

For 1080p, a 280x or 290 is cheaper and will get you very good performance.  (The 290 is anywhere from $50-$100 cheaper, and is only around 10% slower than the 970.)

For 1440p the 970 is a good option.

lol saw all the posts bout the nvidia vram thing.

if all the cards weren't already confusion enough for me.

had my mind set on the 970 strix

because of the linus video actually.

maybe ill take a other look at 290

Ain't you 1080p gaming? Then don't worry about the Vram non-optimal-yet-not-actually-broken problem.

Also, I'd suggest avoiding the Strix, unless it's much cheaper than other brands (which I doubt).

The MSI cards can overclock a bit better than the Asus and may even be cheaper (they were when I looked a few weeks ago).
