Gaming laptop help - Lenovo Y50-70

Go to solution Solved by DIV1D3,

It's the general rule of thumb mate; it's not recommended; you wouldn't combine two different thermal pastes... I remember Linus saying the same thing.

It's almost always going to be fine, never have I at least seen a person asking why there PC won't POST, and then eventually find out it was because of inconsistent RAM.

If the RAM is compatible with the laptop I'd think it would be perfectly fine, and seeing as it's a Corsair Vengeance DIMM I would think that this would be the case.

Hi ppl

So one of my friends is maybe going to by this pc (https://www.komplett.dk/lenovo-y50-70-156-full-hd/824480#!tab:extra) later today because of a big sale. It only has 8 gb ram and i would like to know if this ( https://www.komplett.dk/corsair-vengeance-so-dimm-1600mhz-8gb/756285#!tab:extra ) corsair kit will fit?

It comes with 1x 8 gb 1600Mhz and he would like 16 gb ram

The links are to a danish side, but the specs are in english, so if you would take the time, click on "udvidet info" and the specs will comeup for both items

And if anyone has experience with the laptop itself, is it good? feel free to tell me :)

Thanks in advance

You shouldn't mix and match RAM. Wait til you get it, then buy the same ram type.

yes it should fit the

RAM slot but get 2 of them and remove the 8gb ram that comes pre installed and replace it with the corsair RAM

What exactly do you mean when you say mix and match ram?

Why would that matter?

Normally it wouldn't.

However, under a specific set of unpredictable circumstances there could be compatibility issues due to potential module timing differences.

The Corsair memory's timing is CL10 ( 10-10-10-27 ). There are plenty of websites that will explain what those numbers mean.

If the memory that comes with the computer has different timing, a program (such as a game) could freak out if it's attempting to access data that's being returned at different rates/times because of the differences in the modules.

That being said, I've upgraded many computers with unmatched modules and never had a problem. But the potential is there.

Well thank yuou very much. My friend doesnt have that much money so buying 16 gb brand new is really expensive so if he could use his 1x8 in the laptop its just super. And if it wont work he can probably send it back, as long as its not damaged

I highly doubt it wouldn't work, unless the laptop doesn't support the voltage of the RAM, then the most likely think that will happen is that the RAM speed will have to be decreased.

But I don't think that them being incompatible is likely.

Oh yeah; and one more thing, make sure your Laptop can go up to 16gb, My laptop was a 64bit too, but I bought 16gb for it and it could only use 8gb, look it up on crucial.com, they tell you what the max your laptop can handle.
