be quiet! Silent Wings 2, any better options?

Sonefiler

Hey guys,

So currently in my Corsair 450D I have it filled to the brim with Corsair SP and AF fans. However, it is WAY too loud for my taste so I am trying to get an upgrade to some be quiet! Silent Wings 2 fans.

My configuration will be as follows:

INTAKES:

-two 14cm fans in front

-one 12cm fan in bottom

EXHAUST:

two 12cm fans exhausting via H100i

Is there any other solutions that will be quieter than this with the same amount of air pushed? QUIET IS A PRIORITY, BUT IT HAS TO ACTUALLY PUSH AIR.

Thanks for the help!

To me that seems okay. I'm gonna be replacing the two fans in my new case with the fans from an Air 540, since they seem quieter. :P

Some of the best fans in terms of airflow/noise and pressure/noise are Gentle Typhoons. They're not being produced anymore, but if you can find them somewhere that's your best bet. A worthy replacement would be EK vardar fans. They're really close to GT's and they're still being produced.

It doesn't really get better than Silent Wings 2's. Noctua does have similar fans more suited for static pressure thought which I would recommend for the rad.

What @WoodenMarker said, pressure-optimized Noctuas for the rad, Silent Wings everywhere else.

Be careful when mounting them with the plastic bits, it's easy to overtighten them, in which case they will break.  Tighten them evenly and only just enough to hold them in place.

I made that mistake with two of mine when I put them in slotted mounting holes and wanted to make sure they didn't move about.  Luckily I had several extra mounts because I used the rubber mounts on 3 of my other SW2s

Exactly. Silent Wings 2s are basically the quietest thing out there. Noctuas will do great on the rad.

I'm doing Pull, and I heard that non-pressure fans actually work better (I think it was one of Linus' tests with AF120s and SP120s in Push/Pull/Push-Pull

Pressure-optimized fans are better for dense rads like the h100i.

That was only for push/pull and not pull.

It was for both. They said that AF120 pull and sp120 push was best and af120 push and sp120 pull was the worst, which implies that airflow fans are the best for pull configurations.

No. The reason why AF120's is better for pull in push/pull is because the air is already flowing out of the rad which is less resistance for a fan with little static pressure.

In a solely pull config, AF fans do not have this advantage.

Pretty sure, yeah. That's pretty much what the tests show.

If silence is the goal, I would just stick with SW2's or Noctuas. GT's have great noise/performance but don't hold up when striving for silence.

They were quieter when I looked at benchmarks, and performance isn't the priority; quietness is the absolute priority.

It's more about the tone and sound signature than just the dBA reading.

Yeah, I listened to a comparison and I just generally preferred the lower pitch of the GT's.

If quietness is the absolute priority I'd definitely take SW2. I've tried GT's and Pure Wings 2, and PW2 were still quieter then GT. SW2 is even quieter then PW2.

SW2 is even quieter then PW2.

Well, that would make sense. The SW2's are basically advertised as more premium PW2's.  :P

Well the point is that if PW2 is quieter then GT then SW2 will be as well.
