4690k oc actual clock speed

Mew

Bios reports 4.4 ghz but every single app besides task manager shows that it's at 3.5ghz.

Sure you didn't set the turbo to 4.4Ghz instead of the  actual clock speed

Did you save your settings?

Yea, even task manager reports the overclock.

what does cpuz report  ftp://ftp.cpuid.com/cpu-z/cpu-z_1.71.1-setup-en.exe

do not use the task manager for cpu frequency readings.

run a test like Intel XTU and check clock speed in CPU-Z, if it stays at 3.5 you need to update your UEFI, a lot of the first release BIOS didn't "apply" overclocking but showed it as done.

Try updating your BIOS. Z87 boards didn't all work out of the box completely with Haswell Refresh chips.

I'm running the latest version, bios and cpuz show 1.11, but the actual bios file is 1.B

Doesn't hurt to do it again.

are you on the latest version of cpuz?

sorry didnt see the spoiler, my eyes can be old sometimes.

things kinda look like your at 4.4ghz .

run a cinebench r15 test and see how you score.

download and install intel xtu to double check frequencies

Weird, couple reboots later without saving anything in the bios, just double checking, and cpuz reports the correct frequency. Too bad I didn't run any benchmarks to see if it was actually running at 4.4. Just curious, how bad is auto voltage for overclocking? It tends to give too much voltage right? Gonna let it run aida64 overnight at 4.4 with auto voltage which seems to be at 1.176v

i dont recommend auto voltage.

would be a wise idea to manually set your voltage for 1.150V and set vcore mode to "override" best suggestion when finding stability via stress testing.

you may need more or less volts.

be sure to download and install intel xtu. very nice software and integrates well with msi boards. check out my oc guide for more haswell info

Ok, this is odd. A couple weeks ago, I was trying to get to 4.4ghz using manual voltage settings- I tried 1.2v for override. However, that wasn't stable. For some reason, auto voltage with lower volts seems to be stable.

I'm gonna try stress testing with xtu later when I'm about to go to bed (about 12 hours from now)

Edit:

Trying XTU right now and it seems that it's not seeing anything..... I'm gonna reset bios, hope that helps

i think a bios reset will do the trick.

having the same issue on my z87 mpower. havent looked into it yet.

let me know if a bios reset fixes the 0.00ghz readings.

Nope, doesn't fix it. CPUID's HWmonitor no longer shows the powers/power usage anymore either.

You could just yolo the voltage like I did. 1.3 if it does not overheat it should stable

i think its normal, a friend of mine has a 4690k too, it is OC to 4.5Ghz in the UEFI with manual voltage control but in the properties tab on Windows it says it is still at 3.5Ghz. When he launches a CPU intensive program CPU-Z reports 4.5Ghz just like normal, He never had a problem with his overclock beside that, and im thinking about telling him to update his UEFI, maybe that could sort out that problem, but i would say dont worry ;)

Well, after about 10 hours (9 hour 50 minutes) of XTU, it seems to be stable at 4.4ghz with auto vcore (1.168v) with temps in the mid 50's. I guess I have a pretty good chip and this motherboard's auto voltage is pretty good.

Update: So, I left it to run Prime95 blend and it bsod while I was away. Is it necessary for it to be prime95 stable or is roughly 10 hours of xtu and aida64 good enough? I also watched about 6 hours of a 720p 60fps twitch stream while doing other stuff without any stability issues today.
