AC Unity Frame Rate

ANewFace

So AC unity, I got it for free when I bought my GPU, but the frame rate is terrible. I get like 52~ FPS at ultra. So I have to turn down MSAA to 2X and turn down AO. Is this game just terribly optimized.

Ubisoft made a horribly optimized game, at least you aren't playing at 24fps like the console peasants

CPU: i5-4690k GPU: 280x Toxic PSU: Coolermaster V750 Motherboard: Z97X-SOC RAM: Ripjaws 1x8 1600mhz Case: Corsair 750D HDD: WD Blue 1TB

The problem with Ubisoft games is not just the framerate, it's the microstutter (inconsistent frame delivery).

52fps which you are getting can feel smooth and does in most games. But in Ubisoft games like Unity, Watchdogs and FC4 you get a number of runt frames which take a long time to render creating the experience of microstutter even in situations where the overall framerate is ok. The Crew is a notable exception.

Not sure if it's been improved with recent patches/driver updates, haven't tried for a couple of months.

AC: Unity is ridiculously unoptimized, yes. I've heard some alright things about the game in terms of gameplay but I've heard a lot more negative things than good. In general, most of the Assassin's Creed games have pretty "meh" ports but Unity took it to a whole new level of bad.

The optimization is awesome... Just awesome... One guy with i3 3210, HD7770 1gb vram, 8gb ddr3 is getting 25fps on medium at 720p. And I am enjoying a slideshow (5-10fps) with my i3 2120 (even swapped to a i5-3450), 8gb DDr3, GTX 750 1gb (Which is surely better than HD7770) at 640x400  . Trust me... It is awesome to play at 5fps... I now know the feeling you get BEFORE KILLING YOURSELF!!!!!!

Haha, it's a shame too. I enjoy the AC series well enough that I would probably enjoy Unity but due to how poorly optimized it is and how many bugs there are, I just can't.

No disputing the game runs like shit, but to be fair you bought a game that you didn't meet the minimum requirements for. Mileage may vary, so even if you can compare 7770 to 750 it isn't the same nor will it be for everyone.
